    Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

I always bring a bag of spare gear (we all have it at home). Having said that I found my favourite pair of race socks nestling at the foot of the stairs when I got home.

And many thanks to the organisers, marshalls et al. Is it really 'only one and a half miles home' from Sulber Nick? How can it possibly take so long?

Not sure what was in my porridge this morning but I had a great run (for me), 4.30 (and 45 secs) and overtook loads of people going up and coming off of Ingleborough. I'll probably not be able to walk tomorrow though. It was a really brilliant race and so nice to see so many forumites there.

Big thanks to the organisers and the excellent marshalls. There were loads of them and it must have been really cold in that wind.
I've realised now Hes that you are the young lady from Masham that I was talking to until you left me at the top of Whernside. I did well from there myself and made up lots of places at every CP so you must have really flown from there.
    Well done.

Thanks WP and it was nice to talk to you and now be able to put a face to the name. I'm glad that you had a good one too.

    Great photos!

I got "kit checked", the guy just read off the list and asked if I had everything! Nearly forgot my gloves this morning as well...

    Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

I struggled pretty much all the way round today, feeling leggy and uncomfortable right from the off. I managed to get to the top of Whernside in 2:31 and, despite having to follow that awful path down, to Hill Inn in about 3. But after that, my climb up Ingleborough was dire. And thanks to Hes who, running past me on the Ingleborough summit plateau shouted and offered me a drink; enough of a distraction for me to look up, trip and suffer a god awful cramp attack in the process . Recovered a bit on the run in but finished with a disappointing 4:40. Cracking race though in beautiful sunshine, albeit it with a howling wind thrown in. I too was blown into the ditch on the top ridge of Whernside.

As for the organisers asking for runners to carry gloves and hats because of the wind - that seemed daft as, although it was ultra windy, it wasn't really cold at all, just the opposite in fact.

I agree - I was told that when I picked up my number and I just said to the lady that I didn't have any and she said nevermind then! BUt however windy it was I never once thought of getting my jacket out - T shirt all the way.

Just a thought Stolly - I noticed you mentioned the favorable line off Whernside that cuts out some of the rough stuff.
But due to the flagging now, it's a breach of the rules.

I noticed a high profile runner take that line - they took about a minute out of me in doing so - I was tempted to follow but didn't want to risk a DQ.

As said runner rejoined, a marshall was there and seemed to exchange polite chit chat with him and nothing else was said.

I've struggled with cramp of Whernside like many others and that line would appear a big advantage not just in view of time, but in view of well-being.

Despite being a bit peeved, I haven't and wouldn't report it - what would the rest of you do?

    Agreed
The wind ripped my hat off on the top whernside and took it away to oblivion.
    Gone forever, gutted!
