Tonights ride , a lovely 45 miles taking in the climb up to fritchley, crich,up black rocks to middleton top, down to wirksworth and up again and over to alport. Down and back home.
Not so windy tonight . A couple of other bikies out and one lad really struggling up to black rocks. He had no gears on his triple and one of them moments when you feel a tad guilty as you climb past.

Lets hope this warm weather keeps up. First ride in fingerless gloves.

Must admit i can recommend the de feet winter gloves from prendas. Just need the short sleeve kas yellow top now

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Just a quick 10 mile loop tonight. First ride out in 10 days due to nights and a bout of man flu. Picked up some new wheels today so had t get out to bed em in.
Still having a bit of a problem setting the fit up on the cube. After a while I get an ache at the base of my neck between my shoulder blades. Daz, Ady any ideas?
Toying with getting a reutal bike fit done to get it right, but would prefer to get it sorted for free if possible.

How tall are you and what top tube length is on your bike. When you sit on the bike are your arms locked out ?. Can you get any spacers under your stem ?. Little things make a big difference.
Im 5ft 6 just about and def no more than a 53 top tube. My winter hack is less for a slightly less aero ride and thats 51.5.

Theres a few things you can do to set yourself up. A plumb bob is useful

But set up takes a good while. Cant speak for ady but it aint a five minute job. You also have to factor in if you aint been doing big miles for a while the body will have to re adjust.
    Good luck

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I'm just over 5'8, and got a 38 inch chest. The frame size is a 53, with a 53 top tube, and a 100mm stem. I've changed the bars from 44 to 40 as I heard that would help, and there is room to put a spacer or two under the stem. I don't think my arms are locked out. It may just be that I need to get used to the miles as you said, and some improvement in flexibility through stretching wouldn't go a miss. As you say it can take a while, and I'd rather avoid the £175 for a reutal if possible. Though on the other hand, with that you know you've got your perfect position.

Just to counter that, I'm 5' 6" and ride a 54 Trek. Anything smaller and I find I'm horribly hunched up. I did swap the bars from 42 to 40 though, as the rule of thumb seems to be that your arms should be straight forward, not splayed out.

Yes, your bars were too wide Dom

It all depends on your upper body and leg length... short legs/long upper body makes for a very different sizing, so overall height of the rider isn't much use. Inseem is I am 5'10'' and ride a very compact frame with a short stem, but lots of seatpost showing and long cranks to make up for my leglength. I had a medium Giant TCR compact road for example, which I have sold to a friend who is Dom's size, but because he has short legs and a long upper body, with a saddle height and stem/handlebar adjustment the bike fitted him fine!

2 Dozen miles this morning with 2000ft of climb.
Going well on these little rides av sp 15mph with av Hr only 124 (max 182 min 39) so just a steady ride but feeling reasonable.
Might have to start uping the distance a little now.
Good to be out, could have done more but I have a little fell race in Wales on Sat so didn't want to take too much out of the legs.

Daz, Ady, do you guys have expereince with the Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX? I can't get hold of my fave Schwalbe Durano S with the blue stripes, so thinking of putting some of the Vittoria's on this season, for racing...
