Yeah, it quickly became apparent I had gone off too fast. The shoes were fine, it was so dry - it was my legs that were the problem. I find that length of climb and then descent really hard - we don't have hills that big in the Peak. I need to do more races like this if I'm to get good at them.

The race convinced me I belong in the Peak District rather than the Lake District. Lugging nearly 13.5 stone up 2000ft left me absolutely goosed for the decent. I dont suppose doing the Mountain Festival Triathlon in the morning helped. I can see the attraction though - that being the swim in the river afterwards, and I didn't spit my dummy out like I have at other Lakeland Races.

Loved the low key nature of the whole event. Well done to Scoffer and all his helpers.

Had a bit of amusement as I was cleaning my car windscreen just before I left and this camper van pulled up and this voice behind asked if I'd like to wash his car. I was about to reply that he shouldn't be so lazy and wash his own car, then he emerged in a vest bearing 'World Mountain Running Champion' and I couldn't help thinking 'Lazy' probably wasn't the best choice of words.

You wouldn't enjoy the fuel consumption, but is was visible for alot of the decent! Likewise it was great to see Billy Bland and Gavin? during the race. With my well known aversion to Lakes races it was good to meet the best of the best.

Yeap, I spotted it coming down.

Gavin was there aye, Heard him complaining about the heat after the race. He holds a record for a big lakeland race doesnt he?

Al, never mind all that "not that many top runners did this" nonsense, less than 5 mins behind the winner, top fell racing mate. Knew you'd be a good un when i ran/trailed behind you at Coniston. Not only do you have talent, you work hard too. Endurance will come with age, stick with it, you've got a great future and will achieve anything you set your mind too.
Be patient and keep grafting ;-)

From the Glaramara Centre (300 yards east of Seatoller) to the top of Glaramara via the obvious ridge (Thornythwaite Fell) and back.
