One for Stef as she battles her way round the BGR

    Determination

    Hanging on
    A thin bending stem
    A little bumblebee
    Refuses to fall.

    Wind blows stronger,
    Ever tighter he clings,
    Determined not to lose.

    Tenacity is rewarded
As he buries his tiny head
    Within the crimson heart
    Of a delicate rose
    And extracts
    The sweetest
    Richest, golden nectar.

Very bad luck with the weather conditions Stef.

    From "Endymion"

But this is human life: the war, the deeds,
    The disappointment, the anxiety,
    Imagination's struggles, far and nigh,
All human; bearing in themselves this good,
That they are still the air the subtle food,
    To make us feel existence.

Great effort Stef, you were just unlucky with the conditions. You know you can do it. Take your time and pick a nice day.

Too true HHH, I was in Dufton on Saturday and did a recce of High Cup Nick and Dufton Pyke fell races (did my own version....) and it was atrocious weather. Gales and driving rain most of the time. It must have been a hundred times worse for Stef's BG. I reckon she'll crack it next time though.

I love this Freckle. I think I know exactly where you are coming from...this is a great poem about poetry and the urgency to express in writing when you can't express in person and the calm/quiet that comes when you can!xx (hope I've read that right anyway)

    Shrek the Doorman

    Twenty stone
    six foot four
    he's the bouncer
    on the door.
    Broken nose
    tattooed neck
    nicknamed Ogre
    or Mr Shrek.
    If your drunk
    he'll chuck you out
    and if your gobby
    you'll get a clout.
    He used to wrestle
    used to box
    weapon hidden
    down his socks.
    Dangerous man
    is Mr Shrek
    giant head
    on massive neck.
    So behave yourself
    in the Ogre's place
    or you may get knocked
    into outer space!

Met him once in Sunderland on my birthday, nice bloke really.
Not my poem just found it.
    Been watching Shrek films tonight:wink:

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

    The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
    and floats downstream
    till the current ends
    and dips his wings
    in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

    But a bird that stalks
    down his narrow cage
    can seldom see through
    his bars of rage
    his wings are clipped and
    his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

    The caged bird sings
    with fearful trill
    of the things unknown
    but longed for still
    and is tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
    sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

    The caged bird sings
    with a fearful trill
    of things unknown
    but longed for still
    and his tune is heard
    on the distant hill
    for the caged bird
    sings of freedom.
