I love football. David Beckham ran 20 kilometres in a football match once. In 90 minute!
Who here would say that?
16 odd k's in a game is a lot.
Any ex or current centre midfielder will know they walk off the pitch a broken man. I've played most of my career as a keeper, but when in NZ and a few places in the UK moved into centre mid to get a game when living in places for a short time. Running 10 miles in a game plus tackling, jumping, stretching, is extremelt tiring and an exceptional achievement.
Even as a keeper I wake up on a Sunday bruized and with sore muscles and struggle to get out for a long run.
iain weve had this talk before yeah
as a young good footballer i dreamed of being in central midfield but soon realised as i stepped up to say 14 / 15 year old i was going to struggle with the pace , i became i right back and never looked back , by the time i was 20 every night after a sat or sun match my knees were screaming, i just didnt have it in me
my lad who is 14 is playing in midfield and i wonder if the same will happen to him
