They are already in the current record's list. How about
Greatrigg Man
Allen Crags
Base Brown
does base brown have enough re-ascent??
Go Nicky!!
Ahhh
now I see
that list is the existing, I though it was Nicky's target
doh! should have see the number 62.
a bit mad that many don't appear on the men's record, and aren't admissable to it.
Maybe Nicky will unify the lists ?
That would be a significant difference....
Base Brown has around 38m reascent and is a significant dog leg. Compare that to Coomb Height (back of Skiddaw) which is an extra top to men's records. It has a few metres reascent and it demands hardly any additional time to get to it. The fact is that whoever establishes a new record can choose any hills to include in it. It is up to others to better it by adding (any) more hills. ydt
The men's record moved away from being based on the standard BGR some time ago, possibly before the current rules were established, but the women's record didn't (or wasn't even in existance at the time).
This raises a question - to unify the lists would mean that someone would have to create a record that doesn't merely increment the existing set of tops according to "the rules" but establishes a new course. Thus you'd have two records, one for the old round and one for the new. Of course there's nothing to say that all future attempts shouldn't be based on the new course but there'd be a definite hiatus and it's possible that another contender could come up with their own set of tops which would be equally valid.
Does anyone know what time approximately Nicky Spinks will be around Thurnacar Knott?
Camping in Great Langdale and considering trying to witness a record attempt.
Thanks.
Thanks a lot for that, but I'm going to be reccying the Three Shires route on Saturday, otherwise I'd have been interested to experience a part of the BGR.
I was hoping Nicky would be passing through later at night so I could go after my day out, but if she starts at 3am I'm thinking Thurnacar Knott and the area will be reached during the day?
