Thread: Nicky Spinks Record attempt

    Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp

I was out on my round on Saturday, and I agree that Scafell Pike was bonkers. One of my pacers had a tequila slammer courtesy of some members of the "Hungover Hikers Club". I'm not sure I quite touched the summit, but I did stand atop the pile of bodies that were slumped sweating and panting over it - do you think that still counts?

Really well done Nicky - It was pretty inspiring (though also rather humbling) to get snippets of information on your progress whist shambling along toward a mere 42 peaks. and what a beautiful day to be out on the fells.

    brilliant!

i was out walking with a mate and unfortuantely our paths didn't cross. I was thinking about you all day though, mostly that it was too hot! too hot even for walking, a true show of determination and courage.

we were treated to the banana-man over a couple of pints at Wasdale Head and Jos was having a pint in the shade (unfortunately I'd left my 'Jos Naylor was here' in the tent)

Nicky has put a report up here. There's also a link to her schedule and actual times at summits. Some photos already on the DP site but hopefully more to come on Nicky's site in due course.

    Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp

This isn't quite as straight forward as I first thought!
There is no question that Nicky has established a new 24 hour record with her brilliant run last weekend, but I gather that her route didn't include the Moot Hall.
If this is the case, Nicky didn't technically break Anne's record, which still stands as the record for an extended BG round and we now have a parallel situation for both women's and men's records:

    24 Hour Record:
    Women - Nicky Spinks - 64 Peaks
    Men - Mark Hartell - 77 Peaks

    Extended BG Record:
    Women - Anne Johnson - 62 Peaks
Men - Richard Lamb - 61 Peaks (but different 'extras' to the women's record)

The 24hr record doesn't have to visit the Moot Hall, from http://www.bobgrahamclub.org.uk/index.php?page=24hour

In order to break the existing 24 Hour Fell Record, a contender must either traverse the same peaks as the current Record holder in a faster time, or traverse the same peaks plus at least 1 additional peak. For these purposes, a peak must be over 2000 feet high, be at least 0.25 of a mile away from the nearest other peak on the round and involve at least 250 feet of descent/re-ascent from the nearest other peak. The round must be completed within 24 hours. It must also start and finish in the same place, which does not have to be the Moot Hall.
