Odd to read this thread on my return from walking in the southern french mountains, where people kept tutting over my "recklessly minimalist" Flyrocs.

First barefoot run on the fells yesterday. Was checkpointing a duke of edinburgh expedition and nipped up on top of Millstone Edge. Realised i'd walked up in flipflops so kicked them off and ran a mile around the top and part way down. Felt great, and no aches, pains or anything today. Think i'll get more of that done soon - avoids worrying about which shoes to wear too!

There was a feature on barefoot running on Look North tonight. When Tanya Arnold went on the treadmill barefoot her foot striking changed and the amount of noise made by the foot strike decreased...apparently, i was eating my Whiting and chips and just listening. I hope nobody decides it's definitely for them and begins pounding the pavements of their hometown barefoot and getting injured, it can't be so simple.

I like the look of the Trail gloves, but they're a tad pricey! What's the grip like on the fells?

Sorry if this is old news and it's been posted before, but i've just found this site:

    http://www.runningbarefootisbad.com/

Seems a bit of a rant against barefoot running. I did wonder if it's a spoof as it claims barefoot running 'makes you blind'!!! (metaphorically that is). Isn't there some other activity (also discouraged by reactionary prudes) that is rumoured to cause a rapid reduction in eye-sight should one partake of it (and that's bunkum too). Perhaps I'll just keep at it (running barefoot!) until i just need glasses.

Now I wonder who might sponsor such a site !!!

Had a chat with a couple of runners doing the Lakeland 50 in vibram 5 fingers, they were going well up to Haweswater, left them around there so don't know how they went on, but hat's off to them, one of them had beat his previous best marathon time set 11 years ago, running barefoot.
