Snowdon Race route looks rocky... more trail shoe that Mudclaw terrain?

... going to Wales tomorrow and up Snowdon on Sunday to be humiliated by my lad (again)... ask him to do it twice though and paternal pride would be fully restored!!!:wink:
As for the HP40, I think it'll have to wait for another year and I'll find a 40 mile route to slot into a week day.

Enjoy it papa jim. The HP40 is always full of forumites, so you'll bump into quite a few of us, whether you know it or not. It's probably quite a good one for a first ultra - I think it may have been my first too, or one of the first. It's fast, mainly on clear tracks, although a bit stony in places. Not too hilly. The road stretch near the end is the only really awful bit in my experience - it goes on for ever. Once I start descending towards Chelmorton I tend to feel OK again though - nearly there & nearly off the tarmac. Even Deepdale #2 never feels as bad as it should.
Hi - I'm a newbie round these parts too! Have been following the forums here for a couple of weeks - very useful & interesting.Did my first ultra on Sunday - 40 mile UltraRace Peaks. Did a couple of dreadful long cuts and ended up doing 45 miles - free training!. At 30 miles I swore I'd never run further than a half marathon again. Now......well, I can't wait for the HP40! Am staying in Buxton Friday & saturday night (live in Lincoln) with Mrs R who against her better judgment has decided to come and support! Probably going to drive up Thursday and/or Friday for a recce - wouldn't want to take a wrong turning!Looking forward to meeting some of you thereRich
how would you fare if you walked the uphills and ran the rest on this? 10 hours plus?
Well possibly less, if you run reasonably fast. I think I broke 9 hours the first time I did it, & I didn't run up that many hills.
