Hes - I was going to mention Tarkowsky's Solaris myself, so deffo give that a go - if you like it you could even go on to try Stalker which is my fave of his
re Kurosawa - after Rashomon, if you fancy a samurai epic, Kagemusha is good but a bit depressing (to say the least) - you could try Ran instead (again, my fave)
ooh, and what about Herzog? have you seen any of his films? Heart Of Glass might be a good one to start with, Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo are better but a bit "blokey"

Just watched 'Crimson Tide' on the TV. The mutiny bits were very good, Gene Hackman v Denzel Washington and the dialog in parts was excellent, some of which was written by Quentin Tarantino though he doesn't have a writing credit on the film? Viggo Mortensen and James Gandolfino provided some great acting support as well. Nobody can sneer like Gandolfino
Apart from the corny ending I really enjoyed it.

Excellent ending to the Stieg Larson trilogy, Girl who Kicked the hornets nest is fantastic. The Hollywood remake of dragon tattoo aslo looks like it giong to be good, and do the origianl justice from the trailer. Daniel Craig as Micke is perfect casting.

Some good looking choices posted on here, thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to post back 'The Lives of Others' to Lovefilm and so I had a choice tonight between a DVD of The Pianist or The Duchess on Iplayer. I wasn't sure if I could handle anything harrowing so I chose The Duchess which turned out to be really good but harrowing in a different way. Keira Knightly is quite good at looking tragic and pouty and Ralph Fiennes is very convincing as cruel and heartless.

Hot Tub Time Machine - not brilliant but contained enough geeky time travel and slapstick to keep me interested and make me laugh
