    Hi fjell guy,

Good luck for the weekend, make sure you don't go off too fast, otherwise you'll be visiting a world of pain later (probably), you still have a chance to get some trail shoes and get them worn in, depends how you are with new shoes?, I'm quite lucky in that I can just get a pair and get straight out and not worry, will you be in road shoes? you could be ok in them, some one with more knowledge of the course can advise.

    All the best

First time at this distance so looking forward to the unknown! I think the starting slow bit is going to be quite mentally challenging - I'll have no problem with slow by the end!

THe previous years reports suggest it is a grand day out - just hoping to "enjoy" it, would love to beat 12hrs but will be happy to finish.

    Good luck

I'll probably go with road shoes that I've been wearing for this. Its that or Walsh's which I think will be too thin and poor on the road sections. I'm thinking that if there is a decent road option I'll be taking it, especially in the latter stages! I'll defo be going very, very steady at the start!!!....and hoping to tag onto locals at the end! Just out of curiosity I did 4.48 for Three Peaks, 6.30ish hour for Wasdale and Ennerdale and have 4.05 for marathon...what would people expect to do for this based on those times! I'm hoping to at least go under 14 hours. Originally I'd thought 12 hours but I'm rapidly backtracking on that!

debating how much food water to carry from the start?
I understand that the check points are well provided for and was thinking of only carrying the minimum food and water - any advice?

I guess it depends on how hot it is on the day, I have heard that there is plenty of food and water, but you must take your own cup.

I was planning to take some (not too much) extra water and my usual copious amounts of jelly babies and museli bars...

    Re: Bullock Smithy

I did it last year and started with two bottles which I refilled at the water stops, but by the time I got to Cavedale I only needed one bottle. Plenty of water/cordial at the stops, one mistake I made last year was to forget to take a cup and ended up drinking tea out of a plastic cup they retrieved from a bin for me which was not ideal. If you're likely to want a brew on the way make sure you take one.

Re food, food ranges from penguin biscuits, jam butties, hot dogs.....I am taking some gels, jelly beans and chocolate, all of which I've trained with.

It's all getting a little bit close!
