High Peak 40

Thanks to Bill and his team for another great event. Had a desperate time from Castelon through to Tideswell and then managed to get going again somehow. Really pleased I persuaded myself to keep going- although not sure my body thinks it was such a good idea. Slower than last year but not so bad. Good to chat on the lane Marvin. Great to chat to so many people that I have not seen for ages- like Tim. Rick I doubt you realise how much you dragged me through Tideswell and Monsall Vale. Nice to meet you Vicky- have never had a 9bar?

Wow what a day!
My legs are killing me! My 5th ultra - found the Marshalls and support all the way round brilliant - Thank you all. Met lots of nice people although I am not sure who is on here and who isn't - Was great to meet Karen - (Marvin - i was just behind Karen going up that hill where you were chatting to her.)

Found it a tough course - the last few miles were v tough and i was especially greatful to a nice chap who kept me running up a hill near the end. (although i am sure you told me there was only a mile left when it was more like 2!)

Now i wish i lived in a bungalow and didn't have a dog who needed walking!

A quick stroll with the dog will help to loosen you up. Our Ben would love to have come out and met you, but he's a bit too boistrous as springers tend to be. Such a big field this year. Give me a shout next time.

Let's hope the dispute over the footpath at Cadster is finally resolved in time for next year's race and you won't need to do Milton Lane any more. Derbyshire County Council have made the decision, but an "order" is still required to implement it, and then there is a possibility of an appeal, although I can't imagine that will be successful.

I'd like to add my 'Thank Yous' to the friendly bunch that is yesterdays runners. I dunno if I spoke to anyone from this forum but quite possibly. It was my first outing on the HP40, in fact my first ultra race. I enjoyed it & seem to have relived it in my sleep. A couple of unusual aights were: 1) the dead sheep by the path in Millers Dale (?) & 2) after the CP at the viaduct on the Monsal Trail (exactly 30.0 miles on my Garmin) following a runner down the path only to see she was smoking a cigarette. Never have I seen that during a race.

My first (and last!) High Peak 40 and what a good route (although far too runnable and not enough hills for me!) Found it very hard from 10 miles in and it was only the fact that ChrisH agreed to stay with me that I finished! Thanks Chris! This confirms how selfless us fellrunners are- Chris could easily have took off with the big boys out front but helped me instead sacrificing his points and getting cold as his thanks! He was even considering having a dip in the river during a hot section, which would have been fine-he'd have had time to swim, dry off and still catch me up. Like Vicci above said, I had to run that last hill which nearly finished me off. Was great to see so many other ultra nutters yesterday. Off for more tea in my lovely mug now!

As Rachel says far too runable and not enough hills, calves are killing me from all the tarmac, still, good day out, thanks to all the organiser's and helpers, great job. The Master had a storming run after ditching his heavy hat. Good to see Marvin out spectating and urging folk on, that chair looked comfy and inviting, nice area to live in Andy. Lime Tree campsite is a nice spot but the showers are pants!
