Rather enjoyed this....lots of checkpoints with kind pensioners giving me biscuits AND pink arrows to tell you where to go. They should stick them up round the BGR (just my own personal view of course).Thanks to Mr C for relieving me of that silly hat, it probably cost me three places while i had it.Great to see Marvin for first time in ages....thats a great abode you have there!Legs aren't very bendy today after that nasty road somewhere (im not really sure where i ran other than it started at Buxton and went over part of the Edale Skyline)....Me Walshes have very smooth soles now but they were my road pair so had no studs anyway. Who needs expensive minimalist shoes? An interesting day indeed! Had had a stomach bug most the week and, having started well, began to die going up to Rushup Edge. Had to stop on top "to enjoy the view"!! Died a thousand deaths going up Cave Dale - both legs cramped up and really didn't think I'd get to the top. Managed to get going again going down to Tideswell, then knee started spasming through Monsal Dale. Spurred on by the power of Nurofen, I realised one last long climb til we turned towards Buxton, took some man-up pills and actually finished quite strongly. Went to some nasty places on Saturday! Many many thanks to a guy called Jim - he stayed with me and shephered me all the way from Hollins Cross to the top of Deepdale1. He'd been near the front but took a big wrong turn so was happy to "run" with me. He walked/ran/crawled with me, listened to my whiningand rep my repeated threats to stop at each successive CP. Anyway, without that kind of support I would never have got anywhere near the finish - so if you're on here - cheers Jim!! That's what makes this sport so good. Guess I may have to do it again next year!

What is it about the HP40 that makes it so hard?!? I've done the Bullock Smithy and Fellsman quite a few times and always struggle more on the HP40 - every year I say 'Never Again!'. I mean it this time. I think it's all the flat that cripples my legs - the up andf down bits are OK. What a slog!
Well done to everyone though and it's a great race and really well organised. I just always find it very hard going for some reason.

Good to see plenty of people out (Marvin - you are a jammy bugger and you should do it yourself next year and I'll bring my deckchair over to Eccles Pike and watch you for a change :thumbup

I've nothing to prove. I ran it the first time it took place, all those years ago. These days I help with putting out the route markers, and enjoy watching everyone else suffer.
