    I've done Three Shires quite a few times, and my Garmin always gives about 18km (~11.2 miles)

    That's slightly depressing - it's bad enough feeling so mangled after a 13 mile race, let alone 11.2! Though I suppose that means it was steeper

    I dont know who said this but when Im feeling particularly wobbly about a race (Friday night for example) my 15 yr old son quotes it at me-its on his school gym wall apparently. It usually does the trick and funnily enough was going through my head as I slogged up Lingmoor on Saturday...try it yourself!!

    Nice one. It's part of a speech that Teddy Roosevelt gave in Paris called "Citizens in a Republic" (I think). The words go something like this:

    "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.     On the other hand according to the map it's more like 4800' of climbing!
