Hann I dont need to ask Nick about Bunnyhopping.

Did you not have BMX in Holland ?

Right get on your cyclocross bike( pref a Guerciotti, It was doms fault)

Oh hang on a bit of information on what the youth of Britain did in the early eighties.
    BMX or Breakdancing ?

Now for breakdancing you require a huge piece of cardboad. and a super woofer.
Right that for your breakdancing. Tips for that later.

    Now BMXing or Cyclocross techniques.
Start with small pieces of wood and hop them. Maybe 4x2 yes.
Then you can a board say 4ft wide x 7" x 20mm. Put two hinges on it and then attach them to two planks. So basically you have a board that if you hit it the board will fall over on the hinges. Are you getting this Hann ?.
    So thats your equipment.

    Now technique
    Ride along at desired speed
As you approach your plank or board, Pull up on the bars, lean back a bit. Your half way over. Then mid air move forward a bit and your back wheel will come up. Look were you want to land and you will land.

Do you need kerb endo techniques as well ?

Thanks daz, I shall make my equipment this Saturday and start practising

I can hop on and off curbs and drop the bike off some quite hight stuff without an problems, just no idea how to bunnyhop it... I will get practising

Now, the second issue is speed! How do I get faster? I want to move up in the field... maybe beat a few male friends

If you are happy hopping onto curbs you are pretty much there.

I'd slightly disagree with Daz's technique. What you want to do is roll along pedals level, bend at the knees and elbow then pull up the bars towards your chest and push your legs down at the same time (straighten them). When your are happy your front end is high enough to clear the obstacle push your arms forward and suck your legs up underneath you, remember to make sure your saddle doesn't hit you in the arse, if it does when practicing throw your arms further forward and arch your back more so the bike comes up between your stomach towards your midrift (should only be an issue when want to hop high). Remember do not lean back as this will cause issues with looping out, or your back wheel not getting enough lift and hitting the obstacle. Also do not throw your weight forward as this will cause you to nose dive, again either hitting the obstacle, going over the bars, or losing speed all of which you don't want. If you want to watch videos of technique bmx is the best. Just search either Edwin Delarosa or Ty Morrow, best hops in the game

In terms of cross so you can work it out a bit more:

Notice the pull then throw of the arms, and push with the legs, with no leaning back. Slightly too much weight over the front end which causes the front wheel to land first. You always want to aim for both wheels landing at the same time. As for grip I'd go with hoods, but I guess you should go with what you feel most comfortable with. Enjoy

High curbs here. Stops the water getting on the pavements when the tide comes in.
