    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Just seen on Facebook that my old coach Dave Le Grys aka Legro has won another Rainbow Jersey at the Master's World Track Championships. A year ago he was in intensive care fighting for his life after a horrific crash. Just goes to show what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

35 hilly miles for me this morning, a gorgeous day to be out on the bike. Managed a decent average speed (for me) despite the hills, slowly but surely I'm getting stronger - not strong enough yet though!

Punctured just as I turned into my road.

Out with Twickenham CC fast group to Fairoaks airport and back yesterday.

44 miles, Av Speed - 22 mph, which I found pretty punchy given that the first and last six miles are stop-start through outer London

    feeling a bit demolished today...

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Well after last weeks Cross accident, I surprised myself yesterday!

First ever MTB race... only the 4th time on a MTB... Bristol Oktoberfest 8 hours mixed pairs. Half an hour on half an hour off, alternating laps... we even made the top 10 Me with a bruised sternum, two cracked ribs and severe haematoma's on both legs, the right worse than the left... And my friend hadn't ridden for 3 months due to work and moving house stresses... We have decided we are going to do some more of it next year, as we feel we could be in for a podium if we tried harder

Great fun, loved every moment of it, the riding, the social aspect of it the athmosphere, brill! Even though my body now feels a bit beaten up again... but I don't think it made things worse

Last weeks crash was a spectacular one: front wheel caught in a ditch I could not see, taken at speed, so apparently did a 360 degree full flip landing on top of my bike still clipped in... Smashed my sternum and ribs on the stem and legs somewhere else on the bike A&E doctor said 6-8 weeks to heal the ribs so no cycling... hahahah Mind, I can't push outside my comfortzone though, as breathing is restricted... so no cross race for me this morning

Take it easy with cracked ribs I did mine as a teenager with a similar crash didn't rest and they still flare up now - 14 years later!

They have flared up all right! Pretty painful today...

Don't think they are bad enough for a 6 - 8 week rest though...

Just ride the rollers with no hands, you'll be fine!
