Rollered monday, spinning last night and well, errr thought about riding today (swapped day off at work) but it's well err, pouring down and windy AGAIN. Although it'd clean the bike Toffer, right??
Emma, Wednesday was a beautiful day up in Lancaster. Cloudless blue skies and sunshine, but I've been busy with my builder and I managed to give the somewhat neglected lawn a good mowing. I'm aiming to get down onto the Fylde today ( Thursday ), once the overnight frost has thawed, and get in a steady 40 - 50 miles of easy spinning, if you are ok to play out?

Ian, would have loved to but sadly am working all day today. Planning on riding tomorrow though although the wet weather alternative is a trip to saddle fell. Em

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Cracking 60.61 miles this afternoon around the N Fylde ( N of River Wyre ). 17 miles in, on Island Lane, just W of Winmarleigh, the Cleveleys Road Club chaingang swooped past and I managed to jump on the back. Two cracking lads at the front had us doing 17's & 18's into the teeth of a W wind as we headed through Pilling and down to Hambleton. After 5 miles with them, they were heading for home via Shard Bridge, I settled for exploring the loops of lanes around Hambleton then went via Preesall to the Knott End Cafe, at the top of the ferry slip way. Headed home via Pilling Lane, Pilling, Winmarleigh and Forton (a brew at a clubmate's with 51.5 miles on the 'puter!). Usually only do 25 - 30 miles but was wanting to get a steady 50 in before the clocks go back.
A lot of the narrower lanes were very muddy ( harvesting season ). The Ti Sportive, despite having the mudguards fitted, looks like it's just finished Paris - Roubaix!

Emma, have a good one. I'm down for helping Readey Boyo; picking up some building materials in the van... Ian x

Thanks Ian your description has whetted the appetite for a trot along the coastal flat lands which might be as well after tonights insane spin session!

Just a 31mile potter down Blackstone edge to watch the start of this mornings Summit race then back through Tod and Hebden to home. Fleeter looked in fine form for his come back race.
    Legs tired towards the end.

Note to self, More biking or time on rollers needed.

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I did a quick wizz round some trails on the MTB Friday night, then ummed and ahhhd all Saturday if I should go and do the floodlit cross race... But the ribs were so sore Friday whenever I pushed, that I decided against it...

Went and picked up my Ti cross frame this morning in Cardiff Bay and did a bit of urban MTB-ing on the Qoroz 29er... I am in love! Now getting one for enduro and xc racing

    Unfortunately it didn't really....
But, Daz would be proud of me, got a bit of guilt and gave it a good clean before the weekend, 2 new winter tyres in place before the Sunday ride, and what an epic. Only 45 miles but a complete joy, nearly 6 mile climb up to the upper reaches of Gelligaer common and a long ridge ride along the tops at about 1500ft for miles, blummin bleak and cold up there and if we had stayed much longer pretty desolate(american werewolf in London type weather). Highlight, a Red Kite soaring around us as we climbed, it doesn't get much better! And the road surface, immaculate throughout, just like a Pyrenean climb. Then, turning just before Fochriw and down a freezing descent to Deri(where they film Pobl y Cwm), then having avoided a nutter in a Corsa by riding off the road(like the motor bike in Local Hero), the 20% Deri climb back up to the moor. Fab, fab, fab descent to Trelewis, shame it was so wet and greasy otherwise we would have ripped down it, up over Trelewis Mt and home. Epic, deserving of many roast potatoes. I have indulged

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Just completed the new Yorkshire Wolds Cycle route and can thoroughly recommend it. Scenic, 80% on roads where you rarely see a car. Good surfaces. Excellently signposted. 2hr journey from Manchester. Free car parking in Malton (St Nicholas St). Officially 146ml, just over 4000ft of climbing, but with errors and detours clocked 160. Has been done in a day, but at 66, and with only a few short cycle rides behind me recently (and still recovering from FRA relays), needed all of 2 days to make the most of it including over an hour spent at the RSPB center at Bempton Cliffs. Stayed overnight at Hutton Cranswick (White Horse Inn very reasonable with good food and excellent beer).
