The guys waterproof jacket could only take 800mm hydrostatic head.. this is below the 1000mm required for it to be classified waterproof... 3 month ban...
The 3 Peaks Cyclo Cross carries out 600 or so kit checks as the riders are signing on. The bivvy bag requirement there is absolute, they won't even take a technically better quality bivvy as a substitute to the BMC approved orange polythene one specified.
He was not carrying anything (no kit, map,...). He has been banned for 6 months (there was some leniency which will appear in the report). I will arrange for the Disc. Comm. finding to be placed on the main FRA website. It will, of course, appear in the next Fellrunner, sanctions for registered runners are also reported to UKA.

This was one of the initial issues, the RO simply specified "wind/waterproof" so technically pertex was fine although most sensible people took waterproofs. One chap however ran round shirtless until Blisco when he was told to dress properly by a marhall although I think this was in jest. He did have kit with him. but it just goes to show how soft most of us were.
Which was partly the reason I got in to this thread again because although most of us felt waterproofs were the right choice on that occasion I dont think they were actually asked for. This isn't a criticism of Langdale or of its organisers, simply an observation that after the event the discussion seemed largely about not carrying 'waterproofs' as if they had been requested by the RO as required kit. Thats why I personally feel that some degree of added clarity is still needed - what the RO him or herself actually wants us to take as a minimum regardless of our own personal views, however based on common sense or experience those views happen to be. We would all much rather they could leave it to us to take whatever we think fit, its a real shame that they can not.
Dunnerdale this weekend, printed notice at registration:- 'Required Kit, windproof top, map, compass, whistle'. Thats great, its all we really need to know, and all my extra/spare/waterproof kit stayed in my rucksack at the start, so thanks for that, its all I would have taken if it was my choice and I could carry it happy in the knowledge that if someone checked my kit at the finish they wouldn't be asking why I didn't have any waterproof trousers in my bumbag. And I think it really (or nearly) is that simple!
I shall bear it in mind this weekend then, and put a clear sign up as to what runners should carry. In all info I've put out, I've said to bring full kit anyway.
As for Langdale, surely common sense would suggest, anyway, that you need to take full and proper kit. It's a rough, tough route on relatively high fells. Be thankful that survival bag isn't included in kit requirements! ;-)
I agree - and thanks, I think thats all most of us would like and can reasonably expect, we just want to know what you as a RO want us to carry in case its different to our own judgement. We wont all agree all of the time and knowing what you want should save arguments, disqualifications and/or and need for any sanctions against runners who could end up being punished for differences in opinion rather than deliberate breaches of rules.
Survival bag? If it was included in the list I would carry one with good grace (and have) - as long as I knew thats what the RO wanted, which is my whole point.

New rule? The RO will indicate on a board at registration what kit you are required to carry. It therefore makes sense to bring all of the following with you:
Hat/gloves/windproof top and leggings/waterproof top and leggings - with a hood and taped seams/map/compass/whistle/food.
