I'm contemplating an actual seal skin. Works for the eskimos and it looks pretty cold up there.

It could double as a toboggan for the descents

There looks like a few miles of road (although not looked at map for a while) but want something grippy off rd. Dont know whether to bother with crampons on't fell - a bit heavy and are they really needed? Will have to see nearer the time.

Will, I would guess that crampons would only be needed if it's an icy freeze-up like it was last year. Since I've got mine now I'll be bringing them just in case, but I don't expect to use them.

Looking quite likely at the moment! Freeze-thaw for the foreseeable future, I guess it depends whether next Saturday coincides with one of the freezes or one of the thaws

    Re: Tour de Helvellyn

Are we talking proper crampons or micro spike will and nick ? I'm even thinking of throwing a lighjtweight ice axe and goggles in boot and deciding on day, I'm using it as a training run/end of year catch up with a couple of mates so won't be racing though. Any one thinking the same or am I being over sensible ? Not used to running in snow only walking and climbing .
