The Tup makes a good point. The Fellsman cannot be compared with any normal event. Predict a time and multiply it by 1.5 and you won't be far wrong. My best time on Wuthering Hike is just under 6 hours and on The Fellsman (with a luck-of-the-draw night grouping) it's just over 17 hours. I was dead chuffed with that time.

Sounds right, my best Wuthering time is just under 6 Hours and my one and only Fellsman time was just under 17 hours, lucky as well with grouping, 3 excellent navigators who'd done it many times before and an excellent running mate who stayed with me all the way round. Was your 17 hours in 2009 Nick? Remember seeing you come in but didn't know you at that time, lovely weather on Blea Moor as i remember!

Now up to 20m/4h runs; reasonably comfortable. Trying to do them unfuelled, get to about 2h30 and need a few jelly babies but otherwise ok. If you're not familiar with unfuelled training then this is worth reading but if you want to discuss it then please start another thread, don't hijack this one!

I'm going to start doing some back to back runs after xmas (initially 3h/2h on consecutive days), get in some 25m/5h runs, then increase the back to back to about 4h/3h. Realistically that'll probably take me to mid-feb, when I can take stock and see where i stand. I'm entering anyway but I'm not interested in starting unless I'm pretty confident of getting round.

Whos's entered, how's it going, any other newbies for 2012 ?!

Postal Entry form is up on the website now.

I'm considering the Fellsman Andy and it would be my first time. Have just downloaded the entry form and will dither about a bit before deciding whether to fill it in and send it off....but I probably will.

I intend to enter this for the first time too, Andy.

Noticed the Calderdale Hike details are now up for 2012 too. Anyone think the dates may be a bit close? I Would like to take the Calderdale Hike easy and do it as a last big run.

    Re: Fellsman

I'm a Fellsman Virgin, going to enter and run with a colleague who did it last year as a walk. Have previously done Haworth Hobble, Yorkshireman etc, but this is a big step up at twice the distance.

Advice seems to vary, but back to back runs and other long distance events seem to be the way to go. Starting with the Hebden in January.

    Good luck all
