The loss of revenue to the club is a big hit to take - I know how important the revenue from events is, especially the main one of the year.
It is unfortunate that people had wasted journeys and the vast majority are understanding of the situation. One thing I can see as perhaps helpful for future events is having a mailing list of entants put together in an Outlook group so as soon as it is known the event is off the group email could be sent as this could be picked up via mobile for those already en-route.............? Obviously no use to the probable majority who do not have the latest mobiles but it's bases covered for no expense.
    Just a thought.
HI Ady - yes - we are always learning and regular attendees of the race will testify to the all-round progress we have made over recent years in making the RV10K a great race for all abilities.
We have always taken on board constructive criticism - but I don't think Ria is a wind up Ady.

The info was on the web at 8:30 so anyone with web access checking would know - in fact Dave Norman who I quoted did know and decided that he would continue his journey with his fellow passengers to do a tempo run around the route - which he decided against when he saw the conditions.

A very frustrating experience for all involved.

Thanks for the refund received very soon after it was announced recently that the race would not be re-arranged.

I checked various sources on the day at 8 a.m. then got ready and set off about 8.45. I know that it was advised before the day to check local radio in case of any problems.

I had Radio Lancashire on from about 8.45 until about 9.20 and heard no mention of the race being cancelled.

As a constructive comment, do you know if the cancellation was communicated on Radio Lancs?

Personally I don't know - I was asked to kick off the internet info and did what I could - I will forward your comments.

I know we use RL and the Bee - but don't know the details.

More "organiser bashing" going on I see....

For what it's worth, I don't think it's fair to blame the organiser in situations such as these. I've already stuck up for BBH on RW forums for exactly the same reasons. It's clearly annoying when you've travelled all the way to an event to find it's cancelled, but put it into context. If you were planning a BG attempt and there was a sudden amount of heavy snow that made it impossible, would you hunt around for someone to blame or would you just suck it up and wait for a better day? The weather can't be controlled by the organiser.

At our committee meeting last night the treasurer advised that we still had around a dozen cheques that we had sent as refunds in January that had not yet been cashed.

To anyone out there that has such a cheque, we have changed bank accounts now, so you will be unable to cash them and if you have recently presented them, you will have had them returned.
    (and we will be unaware)

It is likely that you have decided that you would rather leave the money with us, than take your refund and for that we are extremely grateful.

However, if you have lost the cheque or experienced any difficulty, please get in touch and we will resolve this for you.

The Ribble Valley 10K is coming around again.

We have a great line up again at the front end with Liverpool's Jonny Mellor perhaps the favourite after some storming runs this year.

18 x Sub 30 min PB Men are confirmed so far and we have Helen Clitheroe heading up the ladies field again, with Sonia Samuels and Katrina Wooton in there.

A few notable fell runners with Andi Jones, Victoria Wilkinson and some notable fell juniors, perhaps Marc Scott with his 30:03 recently will dip under 30 with a bit of luck.

Open entries can still be made online at the above link, but the Northern Champs part is now closed off.

There will perhaps be some entries available on the day, but if not running, I'm sure that it would be worth coming down to watch the racing in what could be one of the best 10K races ever with a sub 29 on the cards if the weather holds up.

One of the best 10k's on the race calendar this one if you have never done it before.

Looks like a lot of runners from our neck of the woods are coming over for this one so for a change I think I will come and take photos rather than race.

Just remember it's traffic free Dave, so get there early so you can get out on the course.

Should be good for an ice free race day. Just been looking at the PB times for some of the top entrants - will we see a sub 29.....................? Couple of togs from SS there with shutter speed set to 'fast'!
