...and get some hills in! Most folk tend to walk the hills, albeit at a reasonable pace.
Here's another tip or two - don't stop and sit down at check points, it wastes time and makes itharder to get going again. Instead, grab some of the food on offer, and eat it as you SLOWLY walk away from the checkpoint. At least, that was a strategy that seemed to work for us last year.

and don't get carried away at the start, it's far too easy to get carried a way up the first hills. it's a long way with most of the climbing early on so get in to a comfortable rythm.

...but don't forget to go as fast as possible to get to Dent in daylight before grouping. Getting the balance right is a tough one and it's why I always found The Fellsman to be the most stressful and daunting of all the events I've done. All self-imposed of course.

Usually I'm at Fleet Moss when I get grouped. That grouping thing, whilst I understand it entirely, can be an amazing source of frustration! I had to go back to the Fleet Moss checkpoint one year, from about a mile and a half into Fleet Moss bogs, because someone had a bit of a panic attack and wouldn''t/couldn't go on. That in itself shows why there is a grouping rule, but it aint half a bugger!

    Re: Fellsman

As previously posted on this thread, myself and a colleague are planning to do the Fellsman in 2012. I have a question relating to our preparation for the event.
We have the following events lined up as preparation: The Hebden, Hobble and Calderdale Hike, in addition normal weekly runs and hopefully at least a couple of reccy's. Does anyone have a view on us doing the Calderdale two weeks before the Fellsman? This year I did the London Marathon 2 weeks before the 3P's and was flying in the 3P's, however i am concious that the Fellsman and the Calderdale are a completely different type of event to the one's just mentioned.

    Views and opinions gratefully received...........

I trained up to 10 or 11days before my BG then did very little up to setting off. Considering your London / PPP experience I'd say you'll be fine with Calderdale Hike, just don't try and win it if Fellsman is real focus

Hope to see you at Hebden

    Thanks DT,

This is just the kind of reassurance I was looking for. Hope you and Stef are enjoying Christmas?

Yes, definitely see you at the Hebden, if not before.
