A basic body and better lens is better than the other way round. Just buy the best gear you can afford. When you move into the DSLR's it becomes "the more you spend the better the gear". I don't believe there are shortcuts when it comes to quality cameras/lenses. Except for buying secondhand. Try this site... http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/

    Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter

I saw a tawny owl on my way to Pateley Bridge the other day and a very sad sight tonight on the road to Masham from Nosterfield, a dead roe deer. Especially upsetting as I saw a very much alive roe deer leaping across the same road a few months ago and felt so happy to see it, poor thing...

Stoat with black tip to the tail - conclusive ID clincher!

Little owl on fence post the other evening at about 7pm. It was quite happy to let me drive past it without flying away.

treecreeper having a right old climb up and down the hawthorne in the back garden,

seems to be a few more foxes than usual at the moment or is it the shortage of food thats making them braver?

Saw a stoat whizzing across the road on my way cross the moor to Pateley Bridge this morning. A flash of slinky russet and a waving black tipped tail. Wonderful.

One that's avoided the gamekeepers' Fenn traps. Good luck to all Stoats and Weasels that reside in 'keepered' areas.

    Wow Wharfee, that's amazing.
We had a roe deer staring in the dining room doors this morning but I didn't get a picture. Buggers won't stop eating the lawn.
