A great event as always - thanks Alan, & thanks to all your helpers. A bit breezy in places, & a little soggy underfoot, but who minds that in January? Good to see old forum friends - Peter, Karen, Nick - & to put a face to trig. The run felt good, but I was a bit disappointed with my time. 16 mins slower than last year & I'm not sure why. I hope part of it was due to the conditions. Once Alan's got the results up I'll probably do an analysis comparing times last year & this to find out how much of it's just me being slow. I'll post whatever results I come up with.
Wasn't feeling tip top about this one... especially with grumbling sciatica, a 5am start (after only a few hours sleep) and the foul weather on the M62 on the way over... a real sense of doom descended.
Got there though and there was no rain; the company was great; the marshalls were cheerful; refreshments were abundant and the pie and beans at the end were fantastic.
Thanks to all for making it happen.
Just one thing... could you turn that wind down a bit?!
I am 13 stone and was struggling to keep in a straight line and on my feet. The wind in the IoM at Christmas was spectacular, but this wasn't far behind.
And another thing... MUD... it's all part of life's rich tapestry, but I do feel something's missing.
You know how the Inuit (eskimos when I was at school) have about 60 words for snow?
Well do we need to have a similar lexicon for mud? As we all know that not all mud is created equal. Mytholmroyd mud is really quite a unique melee of textures and ingredients....

You deserve the comments. I returned as much for the pamping as the route itself. And yes it is a mudfest in sections eg on path after hinchcliffe up to greenbank and the famous clumps before stakes lane. Mounsey was on fire yesterday. If he'd left me sooner coulda been sub 2:50?
Thanks, and sorry I missed you - The knee was fine thankfully, but vastus medialis both cramped in fine style just after that climb up and over Blackshawhead into the headwind. Knew I was in trouble, just started to feel twinges near to the top. Sure enough, after stopping at ch3 and stretching, the cramp reappeared on the climb from the main road, and believe it or not, I was in agony and had to walk/stretch for about 15 minutes. Many many people passed me, I could hardly walk. It turns out that they were all long distancers. I was gutted else my time would've been much better, but no, I know that I wouldn't have beaten Paul C. With marshalling it last year, I really forgot that it's such a great event with awesome organisation, and great friendly competitors. I'll be back (if Alan lets me!).
Well it looks like I'm going quite a bit slower than last year, so I'll have to get my act together. Of the top 70 finishers in the long race, I found 33 who did it last year as well. 22 were slower, 10 faster, & 1 had the same time. On average they were just under 3 minutes slower this year. So 13 of my 16 minutes slower than last year is down to me. Oh well, better get out training in the morning.

Did anyone go home with the wrong LaSportiva Crosslites? I did, the one's i have here are smaller than my 9 and a halfs and have a pair of socks in them that also ain't mine. Mine had a pair of Pete Bland socks and a pair of 2XU calf guards in them. PM me if these are yours.
