when he saw me just glide past!!!

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

    Well, that was interesting!

Did a freezing cold 2.5 hours on the race bike this morning, Brixton to Richmond Park, few laps, and back... burst water mains everywhere, so some sketchy icey patches and the bottom of Brixton HIll was a skating rink...

Then I commuted to the fair in birght, cold sunshine... and tonight is started snowing, just as I was leaving the fair to go out for a meal with some friends... I hesitated briefly thinking: if I ride back to Brixton now, I will be fine, not sure about later... So obviously, I set off for Mayfair, had a lovely meal, then found 2 inches of snow had fallen during our meal :-O

Ah well, 20 ins wheels, slick tyres, what could go wrong.. so I started riding, only to find the cars were sliding all over the place... So I ended up walking to Piccadilly, to take the tube, as I didn't fancy a car, or worse, something bigger, slide into me...

Could not get into the station, chocca! So walked to Green Park, to take the Victoria line to Brixton... Victoria line suspended... been told to take the jubilee line to wherever and take a replacement bus... after 15 minutes wait, Jubilee line suspended, been told to take another line to Victoria... after another wait: suspended!

What now? With bike in tow... folded up by now, an old gent tells me to take the 38 bus... so I go above ground, wait ages for said bus which slithers to Victoria... where I have to go around the block and wait ages for the bus replacement service... It took me 2 hours to get from Mayfair to Victoria :-O

Could have walked the whole way to Brixton faster, in heels, in 2 inches of snow!!! Bliddy public transport, makes you realise why you cycle... Just as I am about to get back on the bike, as the road were dead around Victoria, the bus turns up... and slides its way to Brixton... At Brixton I manage to get back on the bike to ride the last mile... as road are much better up here, well, the main bus routes are... 2.5 hours in total of cycling, walking, waiting, more waiting and a bit on the bus...

This will be interesting tomorrow! When all the sludge will be frozen over... I very much doubt I get a ride in...

Had to solve a puncture on my foldy tonight as well... grrrrr, ended up walking aout 3 miles in heels, as the bus wouldnt take me with the bike, not even folded up
Seven in the fast group (it was 9 but two bailed out with frozen hands, heh!) - we did about 50 miles out into Kent at a fair pace.
Lots of ice and frost in the verges but if there was any on the road, we managed to miss it.
    -3 on the bike computer.
Got a really good chaingang going back over Biggin Hill. Felt like a million dollars in my hot bath with a cup of tea after.

I love that feeling! After exercising in the cold - if its been particularly hard I'll put sugar in the tea - it's like nectar (normally can't stand it)
