Thanks Trig I'll be carrying gels anyway and I'll pop an energy bar in my bag as well. I'll be there on Sunday but not sure about anyone else. Quite a few are doing the championship race the day before. I went for a recce with the 2011 description a couple of weeks ago but got lost after the "2nd flagstone bog crossing"! Has the "small cairn to the left of the path" been moved?

Ah yes - the Pennine Way was repaved in January - which may have ruined that particular part of 2011 route description - the recent recces have tended to take the direct line - hope you found your way round the rest of it OK

Ok I need to brush up on my navigation skills, I regularly get lost! I was in a hurry to get home for work in the evening so just ran back the way I came and missed out on the rest of the route. Shame cos it was great weather

Really sorry about that WJB; if the cairn has gone (under the new slabs) I will count the slabs to the point where the trod leaves PW and ammend the route description, along with the minor route changes.

    THE MAGIC LINE..........
There is now a magic line heading more directly from Hot Stones Hill to the Standing Stone; leave Hot Stones on the sunken path in front of you (slightly bearing right) descend through the water logged sunken path for around for 200 metres until a small ditch on your left - you should see a fient trod heading perpendicular to the path next to the ditch - keep following this trod West as it takes a wavey but fairly direct line to the standing stone.

I'll buy you pint on Sunday to make up for our the missing cairn

Looking forward to Sunday now, just hope I've got the miles in me legs! Managed the Stan Bradshaw last weekend, first race in 7 months, so I'm sure I'll be able to potter round, must remember the emergency food, cakes, butties etc!

I'm sure that, even with snow, the weather can't be any worse than when we recce'd it the other week, hailstones were coming out of the ground on that one :w00t:

Won't be able to make camping though unfortunately, I forgot we're out at a do on Saturday night, that'll be me designated driver then.

Save some CD for me, I'm determined not to throw it back up this year. There'll hopefully be about 6 of us coming for it, so you may need another barrel.

Good to hear you re racing again Chris - looking forward to seeing the Trawden gang back in Heptonstall again, bazza's expecting you and made sure the White Lion cellar is well stocked! The barrel of Copper Dragon will be gone in a flash after 15miles and 3000ft.

Just spotted the local paper have given us a good preview http://www.hebdenbridgetimes.co.uk/n...race-1-4338458

    See you Sunday!

Trig, how did the woodwork go this afternoon? Are we in danger of getting a photo taken of us anywhere during the race, and please don't say after the last climb up from the Blue Pig! When are you flagging the route? Drop me a message if you need a hand.

Woodwork is looking good; the temporary stile should be in place by Friday - feeling pretty proud of doing some real work for a change (well labouring for Mark who actually knew what he was doing!)
Mark's impressive structure (like some sort of siege machine) will carry 2 runners at a time over a wall and fence -avoiding a nasty bottleneck as the race exits Cloden Woods 1 mile from the start.
I will now be less worried if we get an unexpectedly high turnout.
The existing narrow gate can still be used so with the addition of this mega-stile the pack should flow through without too much delay.
Mark has the whole thing back in his workshop but we could do with a few hands at about 16.00 on Friday when we hoist it into position - volunteers????
