How is the beam on the Myo XP? Can it be good for navigation in terrible weather or just for running over familiar terrain?

I heard the princeton tec apex is a great comparison to the Myo along with the Silva L1. Has anyone tried these as well?

Myo xp belt with accu battery for me , looked at the apex at the time but even though the quoted light output is brighter it doesn't last very long at that output.

As an example the the Silva L1 has a quoted beam distance of 63m but after 30 mins this drops to 37m and after 10 hours 13m these figures are slightly better than a standard Myo xp but with a accu battery pack the Myo has a 41m beam for 12 hours.

I need a long lasting full beam because I'm going to do all the lakeland classics at night in winter but its overkill for most runners

The only slight problem is the battery stopped working in March (bought it in November) and I haven't got it sorted yet (my fault not petzl this is a reminder for me to take it back )

As for navigating in bad weather I tend to put the Myo on its lowest setting and hold it at waist height as you get dazzled by the reflection otherwise.

any Myo XP runner who has ran next to someone with an S1 will have seen the difference, but that is not to say the Myo XP isn't suitable for night running or night nav work.

I'm very pleased with my Myo XP too. When I was looking at these last winter I found the Petzl range a bit confusing but the Myo XP was very different and much more powerful than others in the Myo range at the time. I got mine from Simply Hike.

Although bizzarely it's cheaper in their ebay store than from their own website, and cheaper delivery as well.

Go figure...

HELP!!!!
I'm needing a decent headtorch as i've been drafted in to help on BG leg tonight.
The local shops only have in the Myolite 3, does anyone know how this compares with the myo XP you have all mentioned?

Might see you tonight then (but you might not see me if you don't find a torch) . If you want the XP and you get up to Keswick early enough you should easily get one in the shops there.

Sorry no, I'm on leg 2 (a/c) of the double attempt which is still on... it's gonna be a great weekend , so expecting to be leaving Honister early doors. Can't wait! If you are really stuck for a headtorch, take an ordinary torch, best you can get hold of. You will find that in mist you tend to take headtorches off anyway and hold them at about waist level because the beam just bounces right back into your eyes otherwise.

Don't suppose the 'too tight' cut-offs will matter too much.

Do they have to be solo or might you enjoy some company?
