    Re: Fellsman

It's getting close to make-up-your-mind time for me.

    So let's take stock:
I've got a calf tear which is only beginning to heal.
    I've got a hamstring/glute problem that's been bothering me for 6 months.
I've got a back injury sustained last Sunday - absurdly, whilst hoovering (clearly a risky pursuit) - which has left me unable to pull on my own socks, and liable to scream with pain if I make a sudden movement.
    I can't run.

I'd be crazy to attempt The Fellsman, then.

But... if not run, it can be walked, can't it?
It's possible to have a go and take part even if you don't finish, isn't it?
They manufacture supports and strapping, don't they?
It'd be a taster for next year, wouldn't it?

    See you on Friday.

Heavens above is that your foot in the picture? That looks to my untrained eye like a foot that is begging not be run on for a while. However, I guess it depends on what you have coming up. There's no doubting you will be doing more damage to it if you run on it but if you can take a couple of months off afterwards then strapping and ibuprofen is the way to go.

I'm not Fellsman-ing but I am injury prone and understand the disappoint when it arises. It looks bloody sore.

There are plenty of opportunities to drop out so maybe just see how far you can get without putting yourself out of action for ages. Just don't make my mistake of dragging myself round the whole distance when I should have dropped out much, much earlier.... couldn't train for over four months.

Karen you're elephant foot looks its been inflated - does the swelling still look like that or has it gone down? I turned my ankle in the 3 peaks fell race two weeks before my first fellsman in 2009 but still managed to get round in circa 18 hours. Mind you I've just dug out my ankle of doom picture taken at the time (admittedly before it went purpler) and its completely pathetic compared to yours

    Re: Fellsman

I know that runners dont like to miss races/events, but that looks bloody swollen and bruised. I've done my ankles enough times to know what it's like. I won't mince my words, but I think you would be a fool to run or walk over 60 miles of rough inhospitable ground with an ankle that is clearly VERY injured. And anyone who suggests you should give it a go is also a fool. It's in a weakened state already and it wouldn't take much to turn it badly again (no matter how much strapping you put on it) which will put you out of action for even longer than if you are SENSIBLE now, and let it heal. (just my 2p worth, but it's your decision).
