    Hawkswick - July 1st

Just wondering if anyone has any information about this new race, other than what's on Fellrunner race page? It's also the penultimate race in this year's Junior Championships, so have a host of juniors (& parents) wanting to know what the craic is!!

It appears to be a David Hird / Wharfedale Harriers production. Hawkswick is in Littondale. Stunning Dales countryside. Sounds ace to me

Isn't Hawkswick just up the road from Kilnsey/down the road from Arncliffe? (suppose that depends on your perspective!) If I've got the right place you're right, lovely location - think I went camping there a few years back.

Correct mate. I love Wharfedale but Littondale is a real God's country. I'm back from my travels the day before this and hope to have a trundle round if I can

    Lovely spot.
Ran in a Bofra race there last week.

The only way to get 1640' in around there would be Littondale to Wharfedale and back. I'm seeing Dave Hird tonight so i'll ask him and post a route description.

Many thanks - look forward to seeing it! I'm sure it'll involve a BOFRA-style ascent at some point!

I intend to do this as kids will be at juniors. i did Hawkswick Dash last year and that was basically a stright up and down, but I guess this will be a different style.

    Re: Hawkswick - July 1st

Ted Mason talked me around the route last night which goes like so...

The start is on Outgang Lane like the BOFRA Hawkswick Dash. The route then heads diaginally accross the dale and up to a group of cairns at SD 950692 below Hawkswick Clowder. The route is partly on private land going up to the cairns. You then leave the cairns by the same route and return to Outgang Lane where the course then follows the exact route of the BOFRA Hawkswick Dash; which for those who don't know is a very steep out and back loop of the fell north of Hawkswick.
