I've got her number. She's going to be in trouble for hacking.

Hi all, I'm thinking of doing this on Sunday. Does it just go straight up Latrigg, Jenkin Hill, Little Man and then the summit a,d then retrace your steps to Fitz park via the Bridleways?

I did this in 2010, so it may have changed.

But. In 2012, you run out of Fitz park, down a couple of roads and take the gravel track heading to Skiddaw. You dont climb Latrigg, but you pass it on your left whilst on the gravel path.
Then quite simply just head up the never ending, calf-burning climb up Skiddaw, following the path past the memorial and taking the zig-zag path to the summit. Dont summit Little man!

Once you've summited you dont quite retrace your steps from the top and I think we basically just took a direct line across the rocks back to the tourist path. Then just head down the way you came, your heels will burn with the friction in your shoes and you will beg for it to be over (I did anyway).

I think to avoid erosion - you dont follow the zig zag section of the tourist path back down, you take a right and descent jenkin hill on the grass. Some people wear road shoes for this race rather than fell shoes - but if its wet you'll kill youself in flats descending the grass.

Then its a case of following the gravel path back to the finish.

Why do people where road shoes, is it because there's a lot of descending on well surfaced, hard-packed tracks (apart from the direct line down jenkin hill?)

Pretty much. It might also to limit wear to your studs on your fell shoes rather than scraping them on the tracks.

Its the same with the Snowdon race I support - Ive seen pictures of people wearing road shoes there too.

Each to their own. I wore x-talons.

Thinking of doing this, was going to wear speedcrosses..

EOD? doesn't fill up does it?

Is there much route choice or is flagged where you can cut sections off?

No - it is a popular race but it never fills up. There is very little route choice - Alan normally briefs the field at the start on where you can and cannot - go!

    You'll be fine in Speedcross.
