Haha, I'm consulting my appointments secretary as we speak.

For sure I think I'm fit enough and if nothing else I know leg 3 (the only leg I got to recce before hand) really well now . The only leg I'd worry a little about doing a 'normal' clockwise round would be leg 4 - Karl (aka Ambrosia Kid erstwhile of this forum) was the dogs bollocks there on Saturday and we kind of left it all to him

Forwards DT. Anti-clockwise semi-handicapped us from the off I think. Well anti-clockwise with a 9am start did anyway and I guess something like a 5am start might be okay that way round? Mind you it always seemed like we were climbing up lovely (down runnable) grassy banks and running down torturous boulders and scree better suited for climbing... but that might just be my memory playing tricks on me .

Mind you we bumped into a group of BGers on Dollywaggon Pike going clockwise when we were up there (a teatime start?) and that was equally bonkers - apparently they were already half an hour down because of the crap visibilty.

When I had a go CW starting at midnight I hated it from before I set off. You're hanging around all day and if you're not a night-time person you're knackered before you start, literally. However, there are only three peaks to find on leg one. Leg two clock-wise is so much easier in the light

Yes, I think that the being knackered before you start bit was one reason for the decision to go anti-clockwise this time. I guess both directions have merits and flaws. I'm happy either way as I'm a night-owl and I'm not doing the whole thing. I have more experience of reccying clockwise legs but that experience is very limited. Better sharpen up my act if another attempt is imminent! I can see some days out in the lakes coming up very soon

I was out on the final section of a JNC and we carried headtorches in hand to get round the problem of light bouncing back.

I was in Wasdale and saw you coming off Yewbarrow looking fine. Would have liked to say hi and cheer you on but I had to dash off and collect Baggins who was helping our support.

the JNCer was my 71 year old father in law, he has never run a fell race but Kate, my wife, put him up to it as a 70th birthday "celebration" he walked it (quite literally he walked it) in 20:51

Not your memory playing tricks. Before Bozeatrunner and I did ours last year we obviously looked into which way round to go and I remember that was one of the plus points of C/W - more grass to run down and rocks to go up.

Good luck at your next attempt! Looking at the photos you could do with some more mules to carry your bag!
