The oval shape ensures there's no dead spots in a pedal revolution apparently.
The elliptical chainring is nothing new I still have one on a Raleigh Triathlon with a Shimano 105 groupset that I brought in 1987 absolutely loved it after the initial getting used to it period, I still use an elliptical ring on the Raleigh and reckon its a boon on ascents and maintaining cadence .
Yep great ride by both Wiggins and Froome and great to see British riders in First and Third place, a long way to go yet though.
Bloody hell are them elliptical chainrings making a comeback, I had a Raleigh Triathlon in 1988, cream coloured job, great bike, good to see your is still going strong strong JohnK.

Rest day for the tour. Feels like a rest day for me as well. Might get to bed at a decent time, not stay up till stupid times to fit it all in. It's hard work this Tour

Most impressive yesterday - the interview with Cadel was quite revealing. Is it me or did he have a look of resignation about him?
Just been looking at the stages to come, I reckon Wiggo will be OK through the Alps - it is tough but not as bad as previous years. The organisers seem to be favouring shorter steep climbs this year.
I reckon the big shake up will come on stage 16 - the big Pyranees stage. I think thats the only way Cadel or Nibali could gain enough time to claw back what they have already lost and gain enough to offset the thrashing they will hopefully get in the final time trial. That one is virtually tailor made for Wiggins - much flatter and less technical than yesterdays. Looking good for a British 1-2 at the moment. Admittedly something I thought I would never see in my lifetime!
No tour tonight so off out for a long run (in the rain again!)

I'm not sure if I'd be that secure if I was Wiggins. What happens if there is an attack in the mountains. Wiggins can't go after all of them. If Froome goes and the break stays away does he chase? He is only two minutes back, can out climb him and can nearly match him in the TT.
I don't understand this perception that Wiggins can't climb. He didn't even get out of the saddle on the first major climb, which is probably the steepest in the tour!
To put it in perspective Evans would have to take about five minutes out of Wiggins to be safe on the final time trial. That's a very very bad day...
Froome is certainly more dynamic on the climbs than Wiggins, but unless Wiggo snaps big time he won't be attacking his leader. I wouldn't be surprised if they both ride off the front together.
If Cav gets his act together Sky could win yellow, polka and green with 1st and 2nd on the podium...
