Anyway Vino is so yesterday.
Today we have "Nicole Cooke is the reigning Olympic champion, but Armitstead... is also in contention and has the goodwill of her teammates, something that cannot always be said of the combative Cooke". (Daily Telegraph)
Looking forward to it.
I'm partly with GB on this one. Too many smug assumptions on the part of the new Team GB-Sky bandwagon of fans that they were going to stroll it.
That isn't what cycle racing is like and this was a refreshing and timely reminder of that.
It would have been wonderful for MC to have won but there is a big upside to him not winning: all those attracted to the sport by the Tour might realise it is not something that can be controlled by a few (British) superstars.
There are plenty of other former drug cheats in the Olympics across all disciplines.
I don't mind Millar being there and I don't mind Vino being there, they've done their time, end of.
Some people just don't like their fairytale narrative being spoilt by an uppity Kazakh giving the 'favourites' a lesson in bike racing.

I think that was from the press/media. People who follow cycling, even if not officianados of the sport, realised it was always going to be a stiff task for a 5 man team to attempt to control a race such as that. It's tough enough with a 9 man team.
So I think it was a sense of optimistic expectation and excitement rather than smug assumpptions - that is certainly how I would describe myself pre-race.
Watched the Archery final yesterday, Italy beat the USA. They fire the arrows over 70 metres, i thought it was about 25! There are some things in Archery called the kisser and the clicker, parts of the bow i think, i reckon they should be made to do it with Yew Longbows and ditch all the fancy carbon stuff. Also watched the Chinese smashing everyone to pieces in the swimming
