There was some chatter about that 16yr old kid they had in the womens 400 IM. Her last 50 was apparrently astonishingly fast.

    Re: Olympics 2012

I watched yesterday's road race with my father and we both thought it was brilliant. GB couldn't control it because they couldn't respond on the climbs. Why? Cav is a fat sprinter and they didn't want to put him under pressure.

Not having race radios was great too, it meant riders had to rely on heir skill of reading a race. There's a reason why riders like O'Grady, Cancellera and Vino ended up in that split - they're experienced and they read it well.

A Cav gold would've been nice, but the course was too much for him. The most disappointing thing for me was seeing Cancellera crash out and holding his collar bone.

Vino rode it and read it perfectly, the way he duped Uran in the sprint was great and he's a worthy winner. When the BBC interviewer said to him "It's not the result the British were hoping for" I felt embarrassed to be British!

Those who don't know the sport may cry ex-doper, but those who have followed it for a while realise what a great tactician he is. That doesn't excuse his past misdemeanors, but it does explain why he won yesterday.

    very strange
I was reffering to his outburst/response to a bemused interweiwer who asked a perfectly fair and reasonable question, about wether or not his exertions in the tour had left a mark and blunted the teams ability to ride to the best of their ability...I thought cavendish was going to floor the reporter as he snapped back "...do you know cycling...." he might as well have said " do you know who i am "

I always feel a bit uneasy when someone so young performs so well - how much of their training was through coercion rather than choice? Top swimmers apparently spend 30 hours and more per week in the pool!

I suspect that a trainer from the Chinese team was on the bottom of the pool in some kind of special camoflage suit (like Predator) and gave her some EPO or whatever for the final push just as she turned.

Either that of she activated tiny little propellor hidden between her toes.

Or she had plenty of baked beans prior to the race

    Re: Olympics 2012

I find myself watching all sorts of sports in the Olympics that I would never watch outside of it and certainly not participate in. I do swim but don't usually watch any swimming outside of the Olympics. Several questions arose though while I was watching it so armed with the internet I now know why the lane markers are different colours and how the finish times/positions are calculated and backup devices work and what that line of blue flags is for

I thought that but ruled it out as it would have meant the Chinese team would have had to intecept the the TV transmission and edit out the bubbles while simultaneously hypnotising the entire crowd so that they saw no bubbles either. It seemed unlikely.
