Cracking photo's Wharfeego - (certainly the 2nd one ). Saw you sprinting of Bessyboot-well done on getting round and taking the snaps.

I was wondering what happened Livi - was expecting you to glide past at any point - I've had problems with my knees this year- we'll both be back tho'.

I got a pack of gels on special offer a while back and this came with it. Have to say, the stuff without caffeine works wonders on relieving cramp after races so not entirely useless.

Wasn't really a bonk, or not the usual type anyway (I've had plenty of those). I had the normal amount I would eat before a long race and took in 5 gels, 2 strong gatorade sports drink sachets, and two fruit drinks with sugars in on the way round. More than I would usually take in. At Holme Moss I had 4 gels and that was the lot + very little breakfast beforehand and I still finished 16th.

1l with caffeine, 1l without + a coffee and one of the gels I had climbing Dalehead had caffeine in.

I felt like this on my only DNF which was the 3P's last year, it just wasn't my day. It was as if my body wouldn't produce any energy regardless of what went on. I'm not complaining however, I set the target of completing Borrowdale and managed it, however crap I felt towards the end. These things happen and you just have to roll with it.

Exactly that Rob. You can't win 'em all. When in doubt 'ave a brew of tea (with caffeine!) and everything will be oreet!

ps...thanks for the kind comments on the last pic; it's amazing what you can do with a compact Panasonic Lumix. I'm loking for a quality waterproof compact camera for future races.

bloody hell 4:25 isn't bad - and you;re allowed to be tired at the end of borrowdale. Well done and enjoy having knocked off this classic

Mark (a not at all dismal 4:35 - a pw but still pleased with the achievement)

True, and cheers. I was only disappointed for walking towards the end and feeling so wretched towards the latter third. But as I said, I ain't complaining. The target was to finish, and I did that. Enjoyed the atmosphere too, the finish was great, nice to have everyone's name called out on the tannoy. And nice to see so many nice folk on the way round. Including the shouty guy on the side of gable with a pipe and the people bantering with me as I lay upside down on the side of Dalehead. Cracking day out.

    Yep, that's my motto!
What a brilliant race Borrowdale is! Thanks to everyone involved with organisation and marshalling, it was a great day out.

For me it is THE definitive fell race, just the right distance and ascent, tough climbs, even tougher descents and terrain that stretches my modest race ability to the limit. Usually feel utterly wrecked by Dale Head but felt quite comfortable this time, although my legs were totally dead in the last mile coming into Rosthwaite.
Nipped round to the institute afterwards for a brew and felt much better.
