Am I right to assume this is the map that'll be used for leg 3 too? Looks good, the crappy vegetation appears to be marked.

From Mercia's maps for Legs 1,2 & 4 the climb rate is around 360-390 feet/mile, so that's well into A territory

Question about Leg 3 though (as I'm doing this one) - obviously the route can't be given in advance as the is the Nav leg, but does anyone know what sort of distance & climb is involved in this leg ?

it's normally a bit shorter than to leg 2

So about 7miles, 2000ft and TERRAIN!

Thanks ba-ba, that's helpful. Winner's times over Nav courses can vary quite a lot in distance terms from those for straight Fell-run courses, so I wan't quite sure what to make of it.

As said, times wise the two paired legs tend to be similar.. so as the nav leg requires nav and thinking time you'll do slightly less.. but you can also have quite big variations due to route choices..

A similar map will be used but, being at 1:25,000 scale means there are limits to the level of detail that can be portrayed - e.g. you can't show every animal path. Best advice is to be prepared to exercise both map skills and the sort of judgement that comes with hill nav experience.

The AAA road relays have been cancelled the day before the fell relays. Could this mean the teams could be even stronger?

Must do, we've gone from strugglin to find a team to having a strong line-up with the cancellation.....just need someone who can read a map....

Or is it a find your own accomodation arrangement?
