Unfortunately I was a DNF today. I was feeling hypothermic and lightheaded (despite sugar fix - maybe effects of the cold or the chest infection) between Ribblehead and Horton, and I decided I'd rather not die on Penyghent so called it a day. Well done to all that completed.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. What an iconic event and the atrocious conditions only made it more satisfying. Despite warming up I was still taken aback by the speed of the start and then the scene going up Simon Fell with 600 riders shouldering bikes was epic.
I'd heard about Nicola Davies' technique of balancing the bike on your back and using all-fours for traction and it works!
The weather on the tops was really bad, particularly on Whernside where it threatened to send you down the steep side. The descent from there was well worth recce'ing to make ground and avoid punctures then the atmosphere at Ribblehead was a real lift.
The whole event was really well organised and despite missing my sub 5hr target by 7 mins I was chuffed to get in the top half (just) at first attempt. Looking forward to next year already.
ps definitely pad your tubes even if it does look naff.
Struggled all day, bad pains in achillies / calves on Simon Fell, felt like jacking there.
Whernside was brutal and brought on knee pain trying to run instead of riding, crossing the 2nd stream at the bottom when the rear mech took a dive into the spokes, luckily going slowly enough not to break any pulled it free but that only left me 2 gears luckily easy ones.
P-Y-G was orrible saw a young lad coming down at breakneck speed when he lost it big style...looked like a Moto GP riding going high side I though he was going to clear the stone wall!
Top of P-Y-G was hideous weather stinging rain and very high winds, the puddle at the bottom covered my wheels completely then submerged the bottom bearing of the headset before washing my top tube, more a drowning hazard than a puddle.

Oh and people with 80mm deep section wheels what were you thinking, it must have been like carrying a kite up there?

In my fatigued / 1 beer down state I forgot to say many thanks to John Rawnsley for all he's done for the race, and to all the people manning and womaning the checkpoints plus all the encouragement from 100's of supporters. :thumbup:
