First run in mine today, and I was impressed too. At least as good as a Mudclaw, and possibly with more potential for longer distances, making it an alternative to the Wave Harrier for long trails when it's on the muddy side. In damp conditions it could perhaps even be a Fellsman shoe.
Startfitness were great as well: I got free socks and an excellent warm top thrown in. The top didn't arrive with the order, but customer services were easy to reach, apologised and sorted it out. That was in complete contrast to my recent experience with Field and Trek, who were useless and from whom I'll not buy again.
my only reservation was going to be their durability
but I have now done 170 miles in my first pair of Cheviots and they are bearing up remarkably well
all of those miles have been either training runs in Lakes/Snowdonia or "proper" fell races
the surface/cosmetic trim is coming adrift (but who cares?)
but the uppers are showing very little sign of wearing through
the "join" between the uppers and the soles looks good as new
the studs are wearing down a bit, but nowhere near as much as my Inov8 Mudrocs would've done by now

Using mine for easy training runs and there working a treat, not as good as Mudclaws, but certainly punching well above there weight.
Comfy and grippy, sold!
Happy with mine for training, just done 11 more muddy miles and no probs...the free socks and shorts are ok too.
I bought a pair at the stall that was set up at the 'Withins Skyline'.
I've not tried them properly yet, & had intended saving them for running to work, when it snows, as they're cheaper to ruin than my (birthday pressie) Mud-Claws - the salt dried out & split the rand on my last pair of 330s
I may try them on one of my local footpath/woodland runs on my days-off this week, to see how they do
I wear UK 9 in Roclite 295's and purchased Cheviots in the same size by mail order. The sizes and fit are very close, if you wear your Roclite's a little large as I do for long distance trails, you might possibly go 1/2 a size smaller on the Cheviots for the fells, but if in doubt go the same size as the Roclite 295 and you'll not be wrong.Originally Posted by barrierfreeman
I got a pair from my local supplier who happens to live next door but one! I've always liked mudclaws once they had been worn in for a few weeks - initially my first pair caused horrendous back of heel blisters as I wear orthotics. These seem to have less of a problem in that area with the Cheviots. Ran XC in them on Saturday then yesterday a 12 mile run over Great Hill. I didn't feel confident as they slipped on the wet paving slabs between Great Hill and Spittlers where the temperature must have been heading to only a degree or two above freezing (it was about 4pm) - may have been as bad with Mudclaws or anything else (Roclites may have been best combination). I didn't really notice at first but they do seem a slightly bigger fit which I remedied by adding extra insoles that were spare in the cupboard. Mudclaws are fine but at £80 a pair that wear out inside a year, they make a mockery of (fell)running being a cheap sport! If I'm happy with them after a year, £30 will have been a bargain.
Out of interest, who is this supplier - i 'd quite like to try a pair on.
I thought that they are only available through Start Fitness!?
