Poacher turned game-keeper
Shallow, glib and wrong.
I will assume you have every Dylan and Newman album, dozens of reference books, lyric books, go and see them both in concert every time they perform in the UK here...or you would not venture an opinion.
Tempest is dire, Dylan has been composing by numbers for a decade and his performances are lamentable; although his band is sublime
Harps and Angels is as brilliant as anything Newman has ever done and his performances are still worth driving from Ilkley to Gateshead for.
Dylan, after Presley, will aways be the second most important artist to emerge in "rock music" but an interesting, perceptive song writer now he is not.
In fact Robert Hunter co-wrote every song on Dylan's Together through Life (except one) and he co-wrote the opening (and only fresh) track, Duquesne Whistle, on Tempest.
Bob was great, maybe the greatest but no more.
