Thanks to you all xxx
Sorry its taken a few days to write this but reality finally hit home this week - Darren's not returning home again.
Our lives changed forever on the 7th October 2012 and although we knew after seeing him in Cumbria that it was true, he had died, it hadn't sunk in.
All the tributes online, cards, letters, and emails we have received have been comforting and have helped us all. THANK YOU XX
After focussing on all the funeral planning since he had passed away it was a reality check waking up last Thursday knowing Darrens funeral had finally arrived........ what a send off he got, I wish I could have individually thanked each and everyone of you for attending ,as so many of you travelled many miles to get there ( I did my best but found it hard in the short space of time to achieve it.) There were so many of you !! xx
Our funeral Director Scott said that in 10 years he had never had such a large attendance and was quite sad he hadn't known Darren....
I know as many of you do too Darren would have hated all the fuss and praise at both the service and at Morley Hayes......He can't be angry at me for the video montage at Morley though Ha ha !! I blame his sister Nik and Josh for that , the rest yes my fault..
A massive thanks to Steve Aka Amex for the reading and Andy Howie and Liz for the fitting tribute and poem,
Thanks to all runners that were at the relays at Church Stretton ....Pennine you were all amazing....!! It was a sad day but also good to see again what Darren fell in love with those many years ago, rolling hills,a determination to get to the top, pain at times, then the exhilaration descending down again, muddied, sometimes bloodied limbs, but smiling... Once breath is regained its onto discussing " which race we doing next week"!!.
Many many thanks for all the kind donations to Darrens Just giving Page... its now over 8K and I still have donations from the Funeral collections to add to it yet.
We had this printed on the Order of services and would like to share it with those of you that couldn't attend..
You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left
Your heart can be empty because you cant see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him and only that he is gone
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile , open your eyes, love and go on....
And when that climb hurts ... Remember Daz H " dig in" as you can do it.............
Amanda, Josh and family xx
One grown man reduced to tears.
Amanda, what strength you have shown. May it help you and your family now and forever.
oh boy..........
It's great to think that thoughts and best wishes left on this forum are giving some small degree of comfort to Amanda and her boy.
All the best to them both.
Amanda – your words & thoughts are truly wonderful and very heartfelt, the Ceremony & Celebration of Darren last Thursday and the get-together afterwards at Morley Hayes was just so so so right and an amazing testament to a very special person who plainly changed many people’s lives and made them think, love & laugh too…..as you know the tears are, and always will be very close to the surface.... and the smiles, banter & laughter will remain forever in our hearts & minds..
We (Lis’ & I) thought it would be fitting to put her poem for Daz, up here to share and hold…as we all do…
All the Very Best to You & Josh & The Holloway Clan...

DAZ’S MAGIC BUMBAG…….
I will put in his bag…….
The raucous banter of friends teasing one another as the start line lurches forward
The thrill and adventure of exploring new places, starting new races
Tears of joy and delight as challenges are conquered
I will put in his bag…….
Sharing a beer as there’s talk of new routes, short cuts, trods missed
The rhythm of feet as they dance across the mountain tops
The love and understanding of true fell running friends always nearby
I will put in his bag…….
An energy and determination to be marveled at by others
The purest blue skies that reflect an inner peace and harmony, at one in the wild
An ease of finding the strength and sparkle in whoever he met
Daz’s bag is fashioned from a mix of woven purple heather and vivid green moss
With golden bracken entwined on the top and secret stream pockets
It’s stitches are craggy with breathtaking surprise views
With a spark of an autumn sunrise to capture his mountain passion
He flew over rainbows with an open heart and his bag held tight
Touched souls, shared dreams, enthused all
With a smile and kind words, friends will always remember.
I will put in his bag…….
XxxxxxxX
Love always……Love always….

They are both wonderful.
