That's what I wore for the RAB mini MM in the same area last month, and will probably do so again at the weekend.

I've started packing. Anyone know what a "wound dressing" is? We've each got to carry 2 of them. And 2 "adhesive dressings", but I know a sticking plaster when I see one. Maybe a "wound dressing" is a plaster with all the sticky scraped off... Two triangular bandages per team as well - just in case I break both arms I suppose.

P.S. Just packed 10ml of cask strength 1978 Bunnahabhain.

My x-talon 212's were sliding round my feet on the contours at the RAB miniMM, gave me a blister
    .
I'm probably going to go with my Sportiva croslites.

And an extra layer. Or two

Good luck to all playing out this weekend on this. Mr RTS spent all evening last night cooking up a winter nutritional masterpiece for it :-). Butternut squash risotto with honey baked almond flakes for the main (it is currently on it's 5th hour of dehydration). Thanks Daz the slug for the instruction on how it's done ;-). followed by chocolate biscuit cake for Saturday night camp out. With crunch granola for Sunday's get up and go! All home made from scratch. I don't do the cooking in our house ;-).
It's his first OMM so he is doing B class, but his team mate has done several. I'm hoping to get there for the end to cheer him and everyone else in.
Massive good luck to everyone of you. Go and have fun :-)

4.0kg but I've got to add tent poles & gas canister yet. And decide whether to upgrade to a Goretex waterproof. And find out what a "wound dressing" is and add two of them. 9.9kg is definitely over the top. Chuck every other item back in the wardrobe...

I assume it is something like this: http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/smi...cm-x-5cm-10830

I wasn't sure about the 'pen and paper that can be used in the wet' (or words to that effect) - do they really expect anything special here?

Also is this the first time they have recommended that Friday night tents be taken down - we usually leave ours up to save hassle on Satruday morning and give us somewhere to change and sort out kit if weather is bad on Sunday afternoon.

No, they recommended the same last year. I think it's possibly because several tents blew down in 2009.

I seem to be right out of those dressings at the minute. The pen is key, as you need to write on the map & it might be raining at the time - circling your checkpoints etc. Best is a permanent OHP or CD pen (same thing). Red works best (i.e. most visible), black 2nd best imho. Having 2 colours in a team stops you confusing day 1 & day 2 CPs on the map. No idea why paper's on the list, but I happen to have a pad of waterproof notepaper for bird log purposes, so I take a sheet of that. The tents down thing will be either at the request of the school or because they're not sure of security I would guess.

Andy is right 9kg + is too much.
Have not yet packed but will be bothered if mine is more than 6, even after putting in a slightly thicker sleeping bag- have decided PHD minimus will probably be too cold even with all clothes on and silk liner.
I am not suggesting we skimp on first aid but i do not think they have asked to see all the bits individually
as to pen and paper , I would agree OHT permanent pens best, red or orange. I do have some waterproof paper so may put a sheet in.
