    Re: Tour of Pendle 17/11/12

Found these two online which I'm going to use on saturday.

No idea about the entry list, I sent my entry off about a month ago but I have no idea what happened to it.

They look like slightly old maps to me. CP1 has moved - check it against the co-ords given with the entry form. You now cross the wall where the old CP1 was and head close to due W. to another wall (where current CP1 is) before dropping to the clough.

In theory the new CP1 is over the wall (using the stile that's marked as compulsory for the return leg) and turn sharp left about 100m.

In practice I think it's subject to variation! I missed last year's race but in 2009 the CP has been halfway down the wall towards the clough, in 2010 there was nobody there!

Just assume that you're going to have to cross the stile and turn left, everything should follow from then on. Some runners drop straight to the clough (following the path along the clough is better running but you can get stuck behind slower runners), some will carry on towards the CP8 location for a while before bearing south down to the clough (flat but rough underfoot when you get past CP8).

In practice, I doubt it makes a lot of difference what you do, there's no 'magic route' from CP1 to CP2

I have a spare number for full tour. You just need to provide your details so it can all be official with the race organiser. I can't run as I'm off to Kendal for the mountain festival :-) Message me if you or someone you know wants this.

Looking forward to this race next and enjoyed my recce over at pendle last week. do runners go literally cross
country to get to cp 1 and thus avoiding the summit and the old cp 1?

Sorry for the basic and boring question, what is the parking like for this - is it worth me spending double the fuel bill to bring the 4x4?

Busy enough. The car park is usually full and the roadside jammed as well. Was there today and by the time I got back from a run around the course it was pretty crowded just with walkers and day trippers. Best get there early if you want a decent parking spot.

BTW, has anyone got any tips for the best line down Geronimo? I followed the line right to the trod that takes you diametrically down the slope (to the right), it was as slippy as hell and quite rocky. I seem to remember a better line from last year.

This is getting complicated. Plan so far:

1.) get rid of cold (almost gone)
2.) turn up early to park
    3.) follow a local!
