    Re: LDWA events

Anybody on here, local or otherwise coming out to the Wolds in East Yorkshire for the Rudolph Romp? 1st Dec, 24.5m roughly. Expected LDWA hospitality on route and at start/finish. Usually a good split of runners/walkers and loads of entrants (400+ last year), so maybe best not to chance OTD entry.

Usually gets a good entry and a "fast" course in that much of first and second half are on flat becoming-more-undulating trails, paths, some road (only busy ones are crossed and left almost imeadiately), but the effects of short sharp early hills and then a few more short, sharp late hills make for a great challenge that will catch-out those who think they can run it flat-out like a marathon.

Ran part of the course at weekend, most of afore mentioned early and late hills and a bit of flat so can confirm 'right now' the mud is fairly light. If anybody has any queries about the course I can try and answer as know some parts particularly well and the rest comes back to me each year as I run. And I'll give you a hint, run your effort to expect a faster first half, more undulation/hills in second and they get you when your most tired.

    Re: LDWA events

R.Romp update, the woods before Sancton have got very muddy after the track joins path, recce'd on Saturday and by sounds of anothers report worse on Sunday. AND lots of rain since (as per everywhere)! No real surprise I guess, good news is rest of route ok as of last weekend - recce'd middle 20m from Little Wold Lane in South Cave at least and other bits aren't that muddy ever IMHO. So if your better trained, you will still probably beat last years time, only a few hundred yards is bad and may make progress a few minutes slower over that section than on dryer early winters we've had the last few years (barring 2010 when snow delayed this until March 2011). But worth a mention I thought, as it was sufficiently bad enough that I passed a stuck 4WD being slowly approached by a big-wheeled tractor coming to pull it out!

It's also sold out ive reliably informed, so if your thinking of entry on the day I'd make a call first

Yep, despite all the talk and prep for it I didn't try to enter till last week and got my cheque back today

No matter though, I'll be putting a few extra cereal bars in the bag and "ghosting" my way around as a personal challenge anyway. Figure for the minor extra weight I'll save time for not having to stop at CP anyway. Too tempting a challenge on my doorstep to not do now. Will just be a shame to miss out on post-event grub.

Me and the wife were going to enter this but alas it's my daughters drama group production on Saturday and for the sake of a quiet life we'll be there for her. Never mind always next year!

I hope you don't get him a cup of tea on the sly - that's exactly the sort of bad behaviour that gets runners a bad name on these events......... I hope you were just joking
