It's a long way from Dunmail out to Sca Fell and back, with the return from Sca Fell to the Pike to factor in too. What are you looking at 8 to 9 hours total?

Dunmail to Scafell on a 23 hour BG schedule is about 5.5 hours. If you're reccying and navigating you could easily turn that into 6.5 hours. Hitting the turn on Scafell and figuring out the "quick" way back will be fun; I'd guesstimate the return journey would take at the very least another 4 hours

My preferences for reccying leg 3 and assuming only one car, are:

Dunmail as far as either Pike o Stickle or Langdale Combe: start & finish at Dunmail
Calf Crag to Bowfell/Esk Pike/Great End : start and finish in Borrowdale
Sergeant Crag to Bowfell: start/finish in Langdale
    Bowfell to Scafell/Wasdale: start/finish at Boot/Brotherlikeld

If someone drops you off at Dunmail and is prepared to pick you up in Borrowdale then you can cut down to Borrowdale at almost any point depending on weather conditions/tiredness/time constraints.

Hoping to do the full route as I'm supporting Daz on leg 3. Want to get round it 2 or 3 times before then.

Bob,think it'll be a solo one with just one car.If its not going well I may do the first of your suggestions

Need some long days though, got the Vegan Welsh 3000s to prepare for.

    Thanks everyone for the advice

Hi all, it's Steve from Saturday's leg 3 recce. It was an amazing day out and great to meet everyone. My spaniels said that they were glad they stayed home for that one....
Good luck to all of you on your rounds; I hope to be able to offer some help over the next few months.
