I normally take the gentle path, but as I was around 200m behind a quicker club mate coming off Yearlet I took a chance and went for the steep downhill; slid down most of the way and ended up just in front of him at the reservoir. I'm not sure that it would have been quicker if I had to go down on 2 feet, but this year it worked.
Excited about this. birthday weekend of racing. Titterstone and Valleys. What's not to like. Oh yeah the last climbs on the valleys. Ouch. Will be breaking my valleys cherry though so looking forward to it. Should be Fun, kind of. :-)

Longdogs - a fellow running mate (mr Tom Roo) showed me around it a few weeks back. The end is nothing less than evil but awesome in a strange way. Never raced anything bigger than the Cardington Cracker and the longmynd hike but thats a different beast completely and can be done nice and steady. looking forward to the hurt.

i know most of us carry everything in our car for thsi exact reason but would hate for people to make a long journey to the Shire without the proper kit.

My first post having just joined the forum - been meaning to for a while since joining the FRA a few months ago.
I'm not in a running club but i've done a couple of AS races so far this year (Lambs Longer Leg and Lads Leap) and planning to do two AM grade races in the hope that i can qualify for the Snowdon race when entries open next month.
The LMV this weekend will be my first M length race and although i've covered the mileage in training i'm slightly concerned about the very steep descents and phrases like "exquisite torture" and "evil bastard" in relation to the race!
Although i live only 1.5hrs drive away i've never actually been to the LMV area before and haven't had chance to do a recce - i obviously have map and compass, but my nav skills are a bit rusty - will there be enough runners out for me to tag onto a group going at my pace so that i'm not stopping to check my map every few minutes??
I know the race has been going for 30 years and it sounds like a a challenging and enjoyable day out - any advice gratefully received and i look forward to seeing people there on Sunday morning.

its fairly easy going nav wise, the trickiest part is fairly on after the first CP so lots of people to follow.
The hardest parts are in the last 3miles, so you need to reach the 10km point still feeling really fresh.

The LMVs race is one of the toughest medium races and if the weather is bad, go prepared with plenty of gear.
