I went to the 6pm showing of Malick's To The Wonder this evening at the National Media Museum in Bradford.

It is an astonishing, if difficult, film but even I was surprised to be the only male in the auditorium along with two women.

It must be the swaying corn field shots that puts people off.

Looper was ok, a watchable thing but nothing amazing.

Went on a bit too long for what it was.

Went to see Robot and Frank.
A rather quaint, gently told story of dementia and technophobia with a light garnish of buddy movie.
Most of the plot is pretty predictable although there is one genuinely moving twist.
The little robot is wonderfully played and whoever decided to make the voice a modern take of Hal is a genius!
If you fancy a pleasant non-challenging way of spending an evening then this is ideal.
Saying anything negative about it would be like kicking a puppy. Nasty man!!

A Prophet - 2009 - described on the DVD cover as 'Scarface' meets 'The Godfather' and directed by Jacques Audiard.

A very good performance by Tahar Rahim as the young innocent thrown into prison and learning how to survive the hard way.
All sorts of issues (Corsican vs Italian vs French Arab) run alongside a basic 'Godfather' type film set mostly within the prison.
Niels Arestrup as the Godfather figure is excellent, its not just business with him!
I loved the ending as well which was definitely French cinema style!.
Some of the deleted scenes on the DVD should probably have been left in as they tie up some loose ends in the story but
at 2 Hours 35 minutes the director or distributor? was probably just trying to keep it down to a manageable size.
    Really enjoyed it
