A fabulous trot in the hills (here in Settle) this evening with some huge drifts and an impressively frickingly biting wind. I suspect the weather around the skyline will be at least the same if not even better(eg worse) on Sunday. Have a look here

I am in no position to tell you what to do. I'm not close at hand don't have great local knowledge and have never organised a fell race, however, I am hoping to run on Sunday and have been following this thread, and as a result I feel certain that you are doing a great job and I for one am totally happy in leaving it to you and your team to make the decisions. I can't believe anybody is making the slightest criticism of your efforts. Thanks to you and your team, hope I see you Sunday.

I don't make many posts, but I have to say well done to Ian for doing everything to ensure this can go ahead. Winter Hill (12 &13) springs to mind as another event where the organizer was not deterred by challenging conditions. Tough conditions are not pleasant to endure but can make a good event into a great one. I will make it to the start and am really pleased I got an entry, champs or not. IDP, put aside a couple of bottles of rescue ale for me.
I would love to but have not bothered to reccie thinking i had no chance of getting in and dont think its a good idea to do it in these conditions with no reccie. its a shame as i have trained really hard, no alcohol since 1st Jan etc etc and its all down to dodgy broadband at my hotel on the day the entries opened (i was working away) and by the time they fixed it it was full. i even got outbidded twice on ebay for entries on there.
Firstly let me take my hat off to Ian for his effort in trying to keep the race/walk on but not to his common sense on this occasion, it seems that he is pressured by the........ "forum morons" to get the race/walk started because it suits them!
Firstly it will not be a race as it should as the front crowd will have to plough through the drifts creating routes for the following runners like myself to ease our way through without expending as much energy thus at the end places/ rankings will not be a true result of a true champs race.
Secondly in todays world of blame culture who really would want to put themselves out as a target to any injured competitor or if the worse came to it any dead competitors family wanting to know why in such attrocious coinditions was their loved one running/walking in an "organised" event.
And last of all as a member of the emergency services myself and a member of a mountain rescue team the last thing we want on an allready manic weekend for us is an "organised" event going ahead that is encouraging people to put themselves into conditions that are nothing short of " life threatening " and stretching rescources from what could be more needy accidents.
Lets show some common sense on the matter like other race organisers this weekend and cancel the race for safetys sake is it really worth possible lives and emergency services lives just to have a run !
I certainly wont be running/walking this event there are plenty more to do later in the year.

And in the right clothing the conditions in the hills will be far from life threatening - Edale is a bowl and its not beyond the wit of man to drop off the ridgeline if you're struggling.

I have been fell running for over 20 yrs and what i do understand is when common sense should prevail and runs should not be undertaken in hazardous conditions, and to pressure an organiser is unfair to him, other organisers have seen sense and thanks to them there is less risk of unnecassary accidents to all.
