Seriously looking at the map here... Marked the checkpoints for the 37 mile route according to the website, but there seems to be a dazzling array of route choices.

Looks like the potential's there to go well and truly wrong

I'll probably just take the plunge and keep an eye on the map and who's in front of me....and there'll be plenty of those!

I'll trawl through the old posts to aid map marking and route choices.... Taking into account the fact the route alters...

Well I will be, & a good few others from the forum I imagine. The route changes every 3 years I think, & there was a new route last year. Navigation around Calderdale's always an intereseting challenge. I was injured & missed it last year, but I think a lot of it is the Haworth Hobble in reverse. I must have a look at the map myself now it's the next running event on my horizon. See you there Simon - maybe I'll even work out who you are & say hi!

I've just been having a look at the route on the map. There are a good few route choices, but I suspect for most of them it won't make much difference which you take, as long as don't get lost.

Start to Nab End. Looks clear enough, along Moor Bottom Lane.
Nab End to Erringden Grange. Minor path choices, but essentially as close to a beeline as the fps let you.
Erringden Grange to Stoodley Pike. Obvious route.
Stoodley Pike to Lumbutts. Down path SW to join London Road.
Lumbutts to Cross Stone. Aim for canal bridge at 951244, either on road or fp. I'll probably take the fp to avoid climbing the road hill. Follow someone who know the Hobble route up to the golf club! It's not obvious.
Cross Stone to Mount Cross. Along track & join Calderdale Way. Keep right on main track when CW goes left.
Mount Cross to Hoof Stones. Road to county boundary bridge 913282, then path to trig point.
Hoof Stones to Widdop. This is the one where choice of route may make quite a difference. The only way I already know is north on wet ground along the boundary on a trod. Join the Gorple Gate track down to the CP. But, would a beeline via Wicken Clough & the Gorple Upper dam be faster? I've no idea.
Widdop to Top Withens. Obvious route. The only choice is which side of the lower reservoir to go. Unfortunately the NW (road) option is probably slightly quicker, though I probably won't take it myself.
Top Withens to Tom Stell's Seat. There are a few options, but they all appear to be about the same distance & the same amount of climbing (ie not much).
Tom Stell's Seat to Grain Water Bridge. Obvious route via SE corner of Leeshaw Reservoir.
Grain Water Bridge to New Bridge. Route obvious. Don't miss the path down through the wood to your left as you near the car park at the end of this section.
New Bridge to Delf End. Up path by the toilets to Pecket Well. Up track from 997295 or 997296.
Delf End to Jerusalem Farm. There are a few options, all looking the same distance. I'm tempted by the lower option after my time in the snow at the weekend! That's via Low Bridge, Catherine House, Spa Wood.
The rest's on road, unfortunately.

What we need is some spring weather for this one!

I did it last year and got a shock when I realised the route had changed. managed to hang on and find others who had some idea plus a bit of map reading too. Had hope to do a rcee last Sunday but decided too much snow and stayed more local. Might get a bit of a recee early in easter hols if snow gets less

people went more than one way from E Grange to S Pike last year! (on the first bit and then all met on London road)

It was on moor towards end before dropping to villages and main road that was trickiest I think
