Can anybody comment on whether the Cheviots would be suitable for covering a 100 mile plus event on mixed terrain please

They'd be too harsh on my feet for that sort of distance. Especially mixed terrain.

I'm (very) far from being an ultra runner - but would agree with Shaunaneto that they are quite harsh and better suited for softer terrain, where the grip is more important. For longer distance, especially on mixed ground which includes rocky paths I'd definitely use my other shoes (Adidas Kanadia) which have a bit more cushioning / stability.

Done a grand total of 36 miles in mine and the mesh upper has split on the left shoe above the ball of my foot. It's a pity as they seemed pretty good otherwise. Grip is amazing.

Yep, me too, mesh split on inside / base of big toe just behind the toe rand on both of mine. Happened after a similar distance - I'm now approaching 100 miles and they haven't got appreciably worse, but it doesn't seem particularly promising. Most of my shoes regardless of brand seem to 'go' in this area, no idea why...

Mine are still usable so hopefully won't get any worse although I think I'll just keep them as a training shoe from now on. It's only the left shoe and I don't usually get problems in this area of my shoes.

Mine just arrived. Ordered a pair of 9 and a 9.5, usually 9 in Inov8 295s, and it seems I would be best off with the 9.5 on the left and the 9 on the right

...other than that, I am thinking these might be a overkill for my flatland/woodland/harder ground exploits now the weather seems to be getting a bit dryer.
