this was Lord's Rake on Saturday:
on the descent from Scafell to Brackenclose I reccied a nice line down off Rakehead Crag to Lingmell Gill, which brought me in under schedule
and I also straight-lined Red Pike from Yewbarrow col (rather than that horrible traverse to Dore Head), which went to schedule
all in all, a productive day!

Can you send me your leg 3 splits on here or email ? If I can get Wednesday off work I'll be doing most of leg 3 from the start. I'll hopefully go a bit above BG pace but would be useful to know your target times
Interesting ..... but you don't go all the way along the traverse to Dore Head do you? There are a couple of places where you can drop off to a better (lower) line. Keswick Simon pointed out the straight-line route to Red Pike to me and I've wondered whether it was worth doing ever since, because you do lose a bit of height. I'll try it one day ..... did you feel it was worth the effort?
I'll also have a look over that straight line sounds promising. Did you go over lords rake daz ? Can't see piccie that we'll on phone? Sounds like your all ready for the off, have you got all your road crew sorted?

I got to the col off Yewbarrow (where the trod down to Dore Head branches left) and descended a bit more steeply (further to the left) and took this photo:
you can't see the descent, but I basically just avoided the worst of the scree (which is a LOT sparser anyway than the Dore Head traverse) and aimed for the bottom of the main stream on the other side
my plan was to follow the stream straight up (black line)
but I got a bit bored with the steepness and cut across to rejoin the main path (green line)
I had Yewbarrow-RedPike pencilled in as 47 mins and I did it in 45 so happy with that
where you bottom out is a bit boggy, and obviously there's the extra ascent, but you move quicker and it might be slightly less distance
not sure if I'll do it on the day, but nice to know it's a possibility...

Interesting, I will give it a go one day. For what it's worth - and it's only my opinion - I think I would stick with Plan A on the day itself. It might be less distance but I think the extra climb involved could be a kicker, especially if you're not feeling too great. On my first attempt I was feeling like death itself around here.
BTW, you meant Yewbarrow - Red Pike didn't you? I have similar timings for a 23hr schedule and then another 20 minutes to Steeple
